Would you like to elaborate and what perspective you're taking here, given the comparison that I made in the post to which you're referring?

You're getting awfully upset about all this momoyama. I have heard that smoking has a de-stressing effect on people, perhaps you should take it up.

Do I come across like that?

I'm not upset in the slightest. I was taking a keen interest in this thread. Now I'm finding more ammusement in it.

In all seriousness, I hope that the debate can "go" somewhere. We maybe need to delete a few pages worth of posts to get back on track.

Nah, I'm not upset at all. Got plenty of other things going on that I could get upset about. This thread certainly isn't one of them.

I think you have said MORE than enough, its obvious to me that your self opinionated, cars have not even been touched, just "yeah but thats different", 99% of smokers are NOT inconsiderate, I say your view in your rural area of all smokers is a mere 1% of the total smoking population.

Any pollutant passed on, be it from vehicles or smoking are no different, driving is a WORSE polluter than smoking "passively". The Big City is a testament to that, Smokers who live in a City are just as limited as traffic is.

Out on the streets, pollution is free to mingle with other pollution and\or pedestrians, it might be different in the rural areas of fresh countrysides, but a City is polluted by all manner of pollutants, a mere cigarette, does not even come close.

Smokers smoke because they CAN, whether or not they "need" it, a smoker is perfectly entitled to say "need" or "want" when they choose to smoke, your in no position to dictate what they either want or need, because you dont really know, you just think you do, based solely on what you have read or heard.

I am just as entitled as a non smoker not to be polluted by traffic fumes, something you dont want to address, simply because its not tobacco related. But it is far worse in the City than any cigarette.

Smokers in the City are a lot, I'm talking thousands at anyone time, all smoking simultaneously. All outside on the street, with thousands of cars flowing to n fro.

Our hospital does not allow smoking at its doorway, there's a smoking area a good walk from the main entrance, and right out of view, I see nurses and patients mingling y the 2 ashtrays, all smoking and chatting happily, come rain or shine.

Smoking is legal, just like alcohol and gambling, alcohol is banned outdoors, whereas indoors its classed as sociable, smoking is banned indoors whereas outdoors its classed as sociable. You are likely to say "sociable? no its not", one could say likewise about alcohol, both are classed as a sociable drug (hence why drinking and smoking was once acceptable in social clubs).

Smoking is not banned, therefore its accepted, its allowed, so long as it is done outdoors, where the level of pollution is acceptable. Whether or not you agree, or like the situation, that is fact.

One cannot ban its use outdoors without comparing other levels of pollution, you cannot stop one without the other, without a good reason. "Cars are needed" is not a good enough reason, not compared to ones health.

But I have come to the conclusion you are a bigot, especially if your Mum smokes, go tell her how abusive and inconsiderate she is, rather than do it to complete strangers your never likely to meet.

Whilst tobacco sells, (and compared to the tax and revenue - it a BIG seller, just like your petrol) it is going to be smoked.

If smokers choose to smoke, leave them alone to do it, don't preach pollution values whilst you are causing just as much in your automobile. As everyone has rights.

If anything you have opened my eyes to just how raw a deal smokers get from the Anti Smoke brigade, I find you self centred, bigotted and frustratingly more obnoxious with your "opinions" than any cigarette.

Its enough to make me want to smoke, rather than hear such self opinionated drivel. I dont think I need hear anymore of your misguided beliefs on this subject. The World doesnt exist in books

  • Im totally with you

I really shouldnt make this public, But think they should make them more dangerous to kill off smokers quicker and then ban them.....ok its a bit harsh but im totally sick of being forced to either sit in my house or breath in harmful toxins for my unborn baby

its discgusting, and smokers should be more considerate and smoke in a gasmask or just die off
Yes im disabled....yes I can do things you cant....but you can do things I cant so were equal! :D
  • p.s. I live in the country and OBVIOUSLY one cigarette doesnt add up to a city worth of cars....were not stupid!

BUT cars dont cause cancer as easily as cigarettes do and all the time we are improving cars to reduce this, that said I still only use my car (As a disabled driver) when I HAVE to

And not all hospitals inforce the no smoking within so many feet rule, its just signs THAT ARE IGNORED

just stay in and stench out your own lungs if you smoke, ive no time for smokers SORRY

On the way home from the station last night, I was on a bus and there was a lady totally off her small birds on drugs. She was lounging back in her chair, eyes rolled up and staring directly at me.

After a little while she started to smoke, too.

When I went to get off the bus, she tried to trip me up. I informed the bus driver and he locked the doors (after I got off) and had a quick look. Shortly after, I saw a police car roll up and take the woman away.

I was quite pleased. not entirely related, as the smoking was the LEAST of the problems that time, but it's kinda related lol.

Can I just ask what is bigotted about asking to not be smoked around because
    a) it's harmful
    b) it's unpleasent.

That's all I'm (and most of us non-smokers) are asking - to not be smoked around. That's all. Nothing more. I certainly haven't asked that all smokers be lined up and shot, though I know people who do think that.

Rather than comparing unrelated issues, how about a new thread on the effects of vehicular polution and what could be done about it? Or anything else for that matter?

P.S. went to Worcester this morning for an optician appointment. Drove there in my poluting car. Had to, otherwise I'd have spent the night walking and wouldn't make it work on time. Obviously, parked in the car park and not right slap-bang in the middle of the shopping centre. Inhaled smoke the entire time I was outdoors despite my best efforts to walk around the smokers. Things is, for every one I walked around, I walked into another. And there they were, outside WH Smith's doorway so there smoke was blowing into the shop. Could I have avoided them? Well no, I'd really rather look after my sight if it's all the same to all you ardent smokers.
