You really can't have it all ways.

Unless you live in the US where over 400 municipalities public parks are smokefree, over 80 have smokefree beach laws and over 130 ban it from 'public transit areas'. The same in some areas of Australia.

The UK was a few years behind other countries with the indoor smoking ban, so it'll likely be the same with an outdoor one. I reckon we'll probably see it by 2011 in one shape or another.

Volcano... Would the suggestion in your signature cause any smoke that may irritate people? :D:D:D:D

Have you taken this up with management then, or the building owners?

It was approx 10 years ago. Thankfully I no longer work in an office. Yes, I did take it up with management. Turns out there were several complaints from both staff and visitors.

The smokers were allocated a sheltered area to smoke in which was several meters away from the doors of the main entrance.

Absolutely, especially for the witch :cheesy: Luckily no witches have been burned since it was outlawed in 1736. Another good piece of UK legislation.

I choose not to drive, but I have to inhale the fumes from all the people with cars. There are a lot of things that other people do that affect other people, but its their choice. Smokers are now banned from smoking inside public areas so the effects of passive smoking are greatly reduced.

If it took you 24 years to realise that smoking isn't good for you then.... :)

No it took me 24 years to realise I wasnt addicted that it was habitual

See....with cooperation and a little effort from all, these kind of problems can be sorted easily....

In the 50s smoking was pretty much encouraged, in the 60s it was mainly "enjoyed", the 70s was mainly "accepted" both in and outdoors, including your office, place of work, ashtrays were "supplied" on your office desk. The 80's it was discouraged, and smoking and non smoking "designations" were supplied. The 90s were spent "segregating" and "discriminating" smoking,

Smokers never once complained, Either by standing in the rain, outside the Office block, feeling almost "embarrassed" by it, nor when they had to leave the office, to enter the then "legal" smokers rooms.

I still remember being asked on Flights "Smoking or non smoking Sir?" The problem is now we have a society that pushed smokers to "designated" smoking areas, which "unfortunatley" squeezes a smokers chance of having a moment for a cigarette AND where they can have it. They don't complain about it, they savour the chance, whether or not its habitual or addictive, they do it where they know that they can.

I am sure EVERY non smoke has a friend or knows of someone, who now and then, have to "disappear" for a "sly one", either "at work" or "in a club" its frustrating I agree, but they still do it. Yet you STILL choose to hang around with them. I'm sure you know they dont all "deliberatly" go around ignorantly blowing smoke in peoples eyes.

I have friends who out of politeness, wont "light up" in front of me. Even though I can tell they are "desperate". Even at my house I dont mind if they go out into my Garden occasionally, and they always ask.

Now smoking has been abolished from indoor places, The vast majority of "smokers" and were talking lots, are squeezed outdoors, on the streets, by the roads or in a doorway, there they will be, literally "in your face".

Short of an outright ban on tobacco, Non Smokers cannot have their cake AND eat it, it was inevitable, it still hasnt stopped the "smokers" from smoking and never will. Whilst there will always be a choice to WANT to smoke, there will always be a place for them to do it.
