I'm not sure where you live but I wish I lived there. The minute I get outside after work or at lunchtime there are people around smoking. I think it's rude and inconsiderate to smoke in public places.

I'm in the same situation. Can't go down the local main street without being bombarded by smokers.

It was really bad when I used to do office temp work. Office workers in Glasgow would huddle around entrances to their buildings effectively creating a "fog" which you were forced to walk through in order to enter/exit the building

Have you told them about this?

Besides - there's now a smoking ban going on, in order that you might be prevented from breathing in all this horrid cig-smoke. So get back indoors and enjoy the lovely, clean, smoke-free indoor air - there's no need for you to go outside!
Oh come on, don't be silly.

That's a ridiculous comment. When I worked in an office I had to enter and leave the building at least twice a day. I often left at lunchtime to go to the bank/shops or meet friends.

Have you taken this up with management then, or the building owners?

  • Our next door neighbour is a heavy smoker he keeps us awake alot of the time with his smokers cough as his bedroom backs onto ours and we have thin walls, at times it is so loud happens every night i have to get up as it continues for ages, plus he also smokes outside due to having children, and his wife doesnt smoke however his patio area and our patio area are next to each other having a 6 ft fence between but when i want to open my french doors i have a massive whiff of his cigarette smoke weekends i can rarely have my doors open due to his smoke coming in my house, the dog doesnt appreciate it either who sleeps by the doors, why on earth should i have to put up with this why cant smokers have a garden shed where they can smoke. As I speak i got up early so i could have my doors open before he subjected me to his vile stench and now have to close them as he is out smoking now and i am 50 feet from the doors on the computer and the smell is wafting in. What are we supposed to do keep all our windows and door shut - I dont have the problem of bonfire smoke where i live as no one ever lights one.

Maybe my dog doesn't notice it but I do and I dont want my dog having to breath in his vile stench of smoke !!

If smokers smoked in an outhouse or garden shed then they could breathe in their own !!!!!! and we wouldnt have to suffer it. As it would be fully enclosed.

Majority of smokers that i know would be very happy to do this but alas the non smokers campaigned for a total ban on smoking in public buildings so they are not allowed. Classic case of you cant have it all roads!!

To all the people complaining about outdoor smokers....it really is a lesson on the old saying "Be careful what you wish for"...you all wanted indoor smoking banned, it happened and now that summer has (finally) arrived you are complaining about the smokers doing exactly as you wished for

You really can't have it all ways. Smoking is not only legal but is also an important revenue raiser for the government but you are all welcome to lobby your MP to ban it totally and see what happens. Until then I'm afraid that you will just have to tolerate it....after all none of us are perfect and I'm sure even non smokers distress/annoy their workmates/neighbours/random people in the street (do non smokers not carry umbrellas that could poke someone in the eye on a crowded street?;))

What is most annoying on this thread is the lack of tolerance and blinkered attitudes of some of the anti smoking posters....We don't like it and so it should be banned - end of...please get real, it's perfectly justifiable not to like the smell of smoke or a smoker, to be annoyed by the lack of manners of some smokers but in reality it is very unlikely that your health will be damaged by momentary exposure to smoke.....or at least no more than it will be damaged by exposure to traffic fumes..

To the person who complained about their neighbour smoking in his garden - have you asked him if he would mind not smoking by the fence, at least in nice weather? Would you complain if the neighbours asked you not to do various things on your own property just because "they didn't like it"?

I am sure the smokers would have something to say if i sat next to one of them breaking wind all day !

they wouldn't smell it that badly - as an ex smoker I can seriously say I never ever realised what smokers smelled like till I stopped - I smoked from a ridiculously early age, my parents and grandparents were smokers too, so I never even realised that net curtains shouldn't need washed once a fortnight, that white gloss paint didn't go cream with age butin fact it was with with smoke....

smokers have a poor sense of smell - that's why we put on so much weight when we stop - we can smell and taste our food for the first time ever and LOVE it!!:rotfl:

The only good ciggies were post coital, but now we jsut have a cuddle instead, the holidays more than make up for the one cig in a hundred that was enjoyable.:T

It's sod's law that smoke goes towards the non-smoker even though the wind was in the opposite direction a minute ago.
