And as a smoker of 24 years

In my personal opinion & experience smoking is not an addiction its a habit
I smoked for 24 years a very long time !
I spent 6 weeks in a bed after an operation I couldnt even get up & no one was going to bring me a cigarette in hospital
I enjoyed a cigarette I had no intention of giving up at all
When I finally stood up again my habit was gone totally
I had no desire what so ever to have one
6 weeks was long enough to change my habits for life I have not smoked since

Whingeing and whining about it just makes you a sour old puss face. Then you'll have to fork out for botox.

I would have at least expected an attempt at a reasoned explanation rather than just defaulting to a personal attack.

    Nevermind eh?

Smokers are restricted, just how far do we have to take it, now people are complaining they smoke outdoors, ridiculous. Is there anywhere feasibly acceptable for a smoker to smoke his or her cigarette?

Health wise I would say drinking is as bad if not WORSE than smoking, yet X-drinkers do not go around complaining of the stench of alcoholics, who at least have the gifted privilage of doing it indoors, in bus shelters, on trains, indoors or outdoors.

Give smokers a break, you got them out of the Bars, out of bus stops etc etc. It seems its still not enough. Smokers are limited to designated areas, and thats where they smoke.

The Government stops short of an outright ban, simply because they know its where the biggest tax revenue comes from, both tobacco and alcohol are killers, but are not outlawed like heroine or cannabis and for obvious reasons, its got zero to do with health issues, its purely a money spinner for the government.

That being the case, smokers ARE entitled to smoke in the open air, as much as drivers ARE entitled to pollute the air, whether you like it or not.

Until such a time as it is completely outlawed, I would suggest you either get used to the idea that smokers share the same pollution as exhaust fumes from NON smokers n smokers driving their pollution mobiles, or wear a mask.

Dont blame the smoker for inventing the outdoor only policy on smoking.

Some 'reasoned argument'. Digest the following, o ye of open minds:

'Native Americans smoke much more than white Americans, yet have half the rate of lung cancer. The Greeks, Japanese, Italians and Spaniards are the world's heaviest smokers, but are all right at the top of the life expectancy charts, with lower rates of ‘smoking-related' disease than Americans or Northern Europeans. The Japanese have especially low rates of lung cancer - though these have risen over the last couple of decades at the same time as smoking has declined. Meanwhile, Chinese women have one of the highest in the world even though only 2% of them smoke. Such facts are rarely mentioned, since in an antismoking climate they are inconvenient - as is any suggestion that air pollution from cars, etc, might be a factor in ‘smoking-related' diseases. Much easier just to keep bashing smoking'

In their own home/garden/car in an open space away from others ?

Why are ex smokers so self-righteous on this subject ? because its only when you stop that you realise the truth

    1) Its killing you
    2) Its killing others
    3) Its expensive
    4) Its anti social
    6) MOST IMPORTANT it's selfish your either ending your life early, affecting your loved ones, receiving help draining resources & NHS for self inflicted illness or causing others to share your pleasure

It aint rocket science i'm ashamed it took me 24 years to realise it
I hope & pray it never comes back to bite me,cancer is one hell of a price to pay for ignorance

For those of you arguing that bars/restaurants should have "smoking areas" spare a thought for the staff.......

When I was an undergrad I had a PT job in a bar and I was forced to quit due to the effect of smoke. I smelt disgusting at the end of every shift - and I was unable to talk properly.

Smoking is a filthy disgusting habit and I highly object to being exposed to it whilst walking down the street.
