I haven't read every reply but I too cannot stand the smell of smoke. For example at my local Tesco whenever you are walking in you are confronted with a whiff of stinky smoke smells. It's so strong I don't see why I should have to breathe it when clearly the lazy so and so's could cross the road and pollute themselves for all I care. I find it even worse when parents are smoking over there babies and kids... that's revolting and unfair to the little ones.

I am a smoker and yes I know it smells but I enjoy a ciggie. The one thing I hate is getting lectured off non smokers and worse ex-smokers(the ones who don't lecture are fine). Yes its great you dont smoke but I do, its my choice and I have to live with the price and smell.

If you dont like people smoking near you 2 words - begins with F and ends with F! We have to go outside to smoke so if you dont like it, dont go outside(In pubs I mean)!!!

I wouldnt smoke near kids or in bus shelters etc but I have a right to smoke outside where it is allowed and is legal and just because you don't like it, won't make me move.

I have to agree about people holding cigs down low when walking through crowds. It really anoys me and is dangerous. I always cover my cigs so no-one gets burnt or hurt.

Sorry rant over but this thread has really p****d me off. I have a right to smoke and I WILL!!!!

edit - Has anyone else noticed this or is it just me, but the ones who lectures smokers the most is ex-smokers?!?!?
(Im not saying all ex-smokers lecture, but there are a few who lecture more, just because they have stopped, they think everyone else should?)

Not sure if it's been mentioned but what's also annoying is people who work with non smokers are entitled to pop out the office and have a smoke while the others work. They don't have to make the time up and in some cases this can be more than 30 minutes a day while they are nattering and smoking away... non smokers should also down tools while fellow colleagues go and enjoy smoke breaks 10 times a day!!!!!

I work in an open plan office and several of our staff go outside to have what they call a fag break - they have to blick out i hasten to add yet go out on the hour every hour. I have never smoked and absolutely hate the smell and dont want to be any where near anyone smoking.

My point however is 1 of our Managers who regularly walks up and down our office and other office staff who sit near me, stink of a smelly ashtray. Their clothes stink there hair stinks and overall it is very unpleasant. It gets so bad that I can come home from work and I smell of smoke. I think it is disgusting that we have to put up with this, can these people not actually smell themselves, god knows what their breath smells like.

So true, it's an expensive habit. It makes one's nails and teeth turn yellow and above all people who do smoke stink to high heaven... the smell just lingers on everything they must be so used to because like non smokers they don't feel ill but we do.

At the end of the day no one is saying one cannot smoke but at the same time smokers are invading my right to breathe fresh air!

Demand compensation from the people smoking outdoors!!!

And that's how you take it out of context!

I wish smoking was banned at Theme parks especially ones designed for the younger age group. It's great seeing a sign before you walk in saying smoking is prohibited so the parents who cannot last all day have so far to go before they can have one...

Being a smoker now means we get more fresh air to smoke in ;)

I am totally fed up of walking along and some smoker standing there having a cig then blowing the smoke right into my face as I pass them or am stuck walking behind or they are walking towards me, why should I have smoke blown towards me or even in my direction to have to inhale?!!??
I choose not to smoke, they choose to smoke so I don't think I should be forced to!

    Marry me!

I haven't read all of this thread but this is my MAJOR hate topic.

People think my views are extreme, but I maintain that they're logical. It's simple:
If I walk up to you and without provocation punch you in the nose, that's assault, right?
"Smoking harms you and others around you". Someoen smoking near me is knowingly and willfully doing me harm.
    That's assault.

    Lock 'em all up.

That's never been the case anywhere i worked (including a call center-so office) we always used our breaks if we wanted to smoke, which i thought was pretty standard?
