My dad proposed to my mum on their second date and they were married 31 days later..... that was 34 years ago!0

My OH proposed within 4 weeks of meeting. We got officially engaged (traditional ceremony) 6 months later. Wedding due next March. So we would be married within a year of meeting.QUIDCO £2827 paid out since October 2007:D0

1st marriage: in 1999 got engaged after 4 weeks...moved in soon thereafter, married a year later...divorced 2007 (but marriage over by end of 2005 effectively).
Older and wiser....May 2008, met my now OH. July 2008, he proposed, Sept 2008 we moved in together (although we had our own houses, OH got rid of his and moved into mine). Got engaged Xmas Day 2008. May 2009, we moved to another house together (our first proper home together, i.e. one that neither of us had previously shared with our exes).
It's all tickety boo and perfick. No rush to get married, we've been there, done that, got the t-shirts and have both been fleeced by our exes:mad:.
Although when I met my OH, he had been told by a 'mystic meg' character friend of his some months prior, that he would meet someone and get married in 2-3 years, on a beach somewhere. That would be niceI think he is still up for that but the 2 years are up in May 2010, and I'm not sure I'm ready yet

I'm not a guy but personally speaking I'd be worried if someone wanted to get married in less than 3 years. Been with my boyfriend nearly 5 and we're just starting to think seriously about it. We both believe that you need a good 5 years to get to know each other before making such a commitment, most of our friends are of the same opinion, some even took 14 years to get engaged. But then we're both very wary and independent and aren't in any rush; we want to know each other inside out and be 200% sure that we want to be married.
People are also wary when there's money or property involved. We're both only children and will inherit quite a lot each so want prenups anyway incase anything went wrong.
Wow, I sound boring compared to most replies on here :rotfl:0 -
Thanks miss edith. With the getting to know bit, i wonder if getting to know makes a better marriage. so many live together for soooo long then it all crumbles once they are actually married!QUIDCO £2827 paid out since October 2007:D0

We got engaged after 3 months of meeting on an internet dating site. And got married after 2 years. We celebrated our first wedding anniversary last month.0

Have to say I'm of the complete opposite view. I think when you're with the right person, you just know it, through and through.
When I met my OH I was with someone, but within a week I knew this was the man I was meant to spend my life with, so I left my boyfriend of two years, who up until that point I hadn't really thought about leaving (who just happened to be violent and a liar and I should have left ages earlier, but thats another story!).
I've always said 3 years is my limit on how long I would be with someone unmarried. If someone doesn't know me by then, they're never going to get me, we'll never fit exactly right, and I'm going to spend my life trying to rub the edges of a square peg. I feel like this was right for me, as despite going out with some great men, lovely, kind, handsome, successful etc, none of them 'clicked' and made me feel like I had found my soulmate, just that they were great guys, then I found the right guy in the wrong place (Ireland, talk about long distance!) and I knew he was right, without having to know every detail about him or his past. But I guess thats part of why he's right for me, we both always thought we'd know when we met the right person, so we share the same outlook like you do with your partner. If one of us thought like you do then we wouldn't be together, as we wouldn't be right.Debt January 1st 2018 £96,999.81Met NIM 23/06/2008
