Hey Tigs, how's things with you and Andrew today? :)
Two steps forward, one step back ... I'm sure you can relate to that! He only managed 90 minutes off Cpap this morning, whereas he managed a 14 hour stint two days ago. They were going to start him on a 4hr on/off cycle after we left this afternoon.

Still waiting on the results of chromosome tests & blood platelet tests, hopefully we'll get to see the Consultant tomorrow and find out some answers.

Can anyone give me a clue as to how long a c/s takes to heal? Most of mine is healed over (2.5 wks) but I've still got one slight weepy point, and about one inch where there's a definite "gape" that leaks old blood. I had one week with steri-strips & a dressing; one week with no dressing at all; and now I have a pressure dressing on it again .... :o

MM try not to feel too bad - I know how awful it is though as I scraped Alex's head with her door bouncer thingy - or as I like to put it - I tried to scalp her! (it was a tiny superficial scrape about the size of a 5p piece) and I was shaking I felt that bad for hurting my poor baby! Who BTW stopped crying after about 2 minutes and wondered what the heck was up with mum
It happens - try not to beat yourself up too much :)

sounds like what my wound was like.. if im honest mine took ages to heal because where it was gaping ended up getting a little infected so ended up on a couple of courses of antibiotics (first lot didnt work), i know i wasnt happy with how it had healed by the time i got to the 6week check and i actually went back to see the doctor a week or 2 after that, but im not sure how common it is for it to take so long. hope you get good news tomo about your little one xx

On the upside at least your babies can't bring things you've done back up all the time and make you feel bad all the time!

Every day I get "Mum you closed the door on my pinger and I GOT BLOOD!!!" She tells everyone too! Doesn't help she runs away screaming if you so much as LOOK at her plaster!

I remember around the time of baby P, Keira had came home from a weekend away at OHs parents with OH (to give me a weekend of peace!) and she came charging into the house, tripped and knocked her head straight off the side of the dining chair. The bruise on her forehead was MASSIVE, I was getting funny looks when we were in Matalan, they probably thought I had punched her in the head!

OH is scared, Keira woke up this morning and said "daaaaaaddy, the man in blue battered you!" He's now wary of anyone in blue lol!

Tigs - I'm sure Andrew is maybe just wanting a lazy day, and he'll be back to doing great in no time :) Your bruising doesn't sound nice, ouchies!

MM - I'm sure you didn't hurt him, he probably just got a shock. Have you had any luck sticking things between his hands?

My "friend" (I use that term loosely) her dad was watching her baby, he was about 3months, and he took him down to see her at work, but he couldn't figure out the buggy straps so just put the things over his shoulders and didnt clip it, well she and her friend carried the buggy up the stairs and plop, out fell the baby, luckily someone was climbing up the stairs behind her, dropped her shopping and caught the baby, but can you imagine!! It was concrete stairs too, must of been terrifying (and she was calling her dad every name under the sun and has taught now how to tie the baby in!)

Totally and completely understand - and so will everyone else as they heard it from me ;) Rhys did the very same on CPAP.. Andrew will get there, just needs the practise. For being so prem, his lungs are doing amazingly well for just being off the vent, never mind off CPAP for som of the time too :D Rhys used to hate having it put back on - don't think he liked the noise of it. One day, he'd been off it for six hours, and he kicked off so much at having it put back on that the nurses only lasted 45mins of him screaming the place down before they took him off it again and he stayed off it for good.. They said babies often get the fight to come off it like that :)

Have just hunted around the B&B forum threads, and it seems like a gaping c/s wound is quite common at this time! Meant to add, I'm on my second course of "preventative" antibiotics, so not too worried about the situation - it's just the annoyance factor.

Is it definitely blood that is weeping, is it drying out on your skin. did you get staples or dissolving stitches. Have they told you to let air at it. Have you got iy wet.

  • Try not to worry that he didnt get long off CPAP today tigs :) Dylan had to go back on vent for half a day as he couldnt cope long off his CPAP even though the day before he was off it for nearly 10 hours in total !!
And then 2 days later he was off all day bar a few hours at night when he was sleeping. He is doing amazingly well to be off vent and on CPAP already anyway, you must be really proud of him :):)

Bruno, I am afraid I agree with everyone else, she needs help. Considering moving house because your mum wants to see her grandson is way beyond unreasonable (sorry if that sounds harse) and if she wont accept that then you may need to be in the bad books for a while and make her see, rather than tying to keep the peace all the time :)

Thanks for the 'I'm not a bad muumy' posts, but it doesnt stop me feeling like one !!

I still get the "new mum" feeling too so don't worry - I do recognise her various screams and cry's though...

Don't get me wrong - I recognise all the cries, it's just the "I don't wanna do what you want me to do" one that grates.. like the one I'm getting now cos he doesn't want to go to bed. He's bawling in my ear as I type - I'm holding him tightly so I know he's safe, he's dry and fed plenty, he's just playing stubborn but I'm not going to play with him so he can just stay here with me. Does that make me sound harsh? It grates but doesn't mak me want to scream if that makes sense - I've suddenly discovered tolerance from somewhere!
