That may be - but the drug licensing is very different in the US and the UK... :) In this case it was a dentist which - no offence to dentists - aren't as up to scratch as doctors in my oppinion on the current available drugs :) Which is why a visit to the GP for ABs would probably be a good place to start.

A list of US approved drugs would likely be dismissed by most GPs - not to mention that the name it's sold under in the US will probably differ from the name in the UK... I would have thought it would be easier to simply either call your GP or visit them :)

I agree about dentists, but our GP has a policy of not presciping for dental pain. There was a poster about it until swine flu meant we can have no posters or toys or leaflets! Best people for drug advice are almost always pharmacist. I think LLL will also liase with GPs about medication, I know the lady I spoke to mentioned that if I had trouble getting the presciption to treat my vasospasm.

I don't know much aboutliscening, do the same drugs have different generic names in different countries?

  • I have to say that US drug companies can licence things without as many trial periods as the UK. For instance, my OH has Chrons disease, and in the US the drugs used are all fully licenced for this condition, however one of them is a drug for cancer, and the other is for arthritis here, but are on trial for Chrons. He is on the trial as the ones over here wernt working, but we had to sign a serious amount of paperwork to allow this, so just be careful when going by US rules :)

Lots of what Rhys is on isn't licensed for children in the UK, simply because it isn't ethical or through lack of opportunity to test on young babies/children..

There is also a column for the lactation risk category as given by Dr Hale, whose book is like the bible of medications in breastfeeding:

Any good doctor will double check these things though. Shame they have so little training on breastfeeding support, it can often take a push to get them to check. I'm glad my Pysch finally agreed that I didn't have to stop breastfeeding, and there are suitable meds.

okay -not to sound horrible and cruel, but would this be such a bad thing? Perhaps it would give her the 'push' to use the toilet.*runs and hides before everyone lynches her*
They feel no shame at this age though, I'm still having problems with Aimee and she's starting yr1 next week...

Went to dentist, and yes I have an abcess. But he just kind of drained it because there are no antibiotics suitable for b/f? Hopefully its gone now, but if not, i just need to go back and repeat!
http://www.breastfeedingnetwork.org.uk/pdfs/Antibiotics_and_Breastfeeding_March_2009.pdf Information on breastfeeding and antibiotics. Feelie is right, Hale is the book prescribers look in to find information on breastfeeding. It also lists all drugs and their psuedonyms... It is also not neccessarily prescribing something 'off licence' if you are prescribing for a breastfeeding mother and it hasn't gone through the testing in the UK, as long as it is licenced for the illness/purpose it is being prescribed for.
2 hours later and I now have a wide awake baby who is tired, but not sleepy iyswim. I'm not convinced this is going to work :( Will try again this evening anyway. Anyone got any other ideas? We already have a bedtime routine for getting her sleepy, although I don't do any of it before naptime. I think tomorrow I will try putting her into her sleeping bag for naps It's just the getting her to actually go to sleep part which doesn't work.
My idea? Feed her to sleep... If she's happy with it, and you're happy with it then sod the HV!

Lovely pjs Becs, but they look like they need ironing.

It's a soft fleece fabric so I don't think they will need ironing. I'm putting them away for Santa so won't be able to tell you for a while :D
Keira is an absaloute nightmare when I pick her up from nursery, not only does it give me a sore head, it's bloody embarrassing, she's the only kid there doing a full on screaming paddy, she never normally does that. I had to carry her all the way home in the !!!!ing rain as she refused to walk cause she didn't want to go home.

What am I supposed to do? Im not putting up with this everyday

Don't give in to her and carry her! I know it's easier said than done.

If you can do the "bye" thing and leave her, trying holding her tight by the wrist so her hand can't slip through yours and just walk. Don't make any eye contact or speak to her, and just walk as if she wasn't there. She'll probably scream and drag herself, but stay strong and just keep walking. Once she calms down and realises she isn't going to get your attention by having a tantrum, start talking to her again. That works ;)

Did some work with a parental advisor when James was going through some problems and we talked about choices and consequences. You give her a choice such as "you can walk home nicely and we'll watch ....... on TV together, or you can have a tantrum and there will be no TV. It's up to you." Then she decides what she wants to do and the behaviour is rewarded appropriately. You must carry through the option she chooses and she'll soon learn to pick the good option. That might work too if she's old enough to understand. If not, keep it up your sleeve for a couple of years :D

Am I right in thinking this isnt fair and can I put a complaint in via ebay about it ??

I think sellers are supposed to dispatch within 7 days. I would put in a complaint with ebay, and if you paid with PayPal, raise a payment dispute with them too.
Here I go again on my own....

If it's not licensed in the UK then it's entirely down to the GP if they will prescribe it for a condition (ie a condition it's not licensed for IYSWIM?) - some will and some won't. I guess it could also depend on the surgery and if there are some rules there about it (ie if they've had a lawsuit about it in the past ;) ).
DH managed to get ABs prescribed at the doctors for a tooth problem - I don't know however if that was due to him having problems with some ABs (he comes out in a rash... joy!) and therefor any prescription he gets now is preceeded by a GP visit even if it's for his tonsilitis - which he gets about 4 times a year. They've told him they will allow him to have them out on the NHS but it's a matter of finding the time at work to have the weeks off he needs to to recover... :(

I digress :) As far as I know then yes the generic name CAN vary between the US and UK - not sure how common it is though.

Depends on whether you want the item or not really :) You could start a non-performing seller dispute and state in there the change of dates etc - if it's a big seller they have an option to place their "shop" on a holiday state so their repeat listings don't get wiped etc etc but I think changing their return date is out of order...
