One of my friends, she looks after one of HER friends 3yo a lot, the mother is an on/off heroin addict, but when the baby was born, she was addicted to valium, was premature and was in special care for months, yet she was still taking drugs. Even now she lumps the kid off with anyone, so she can have drug partys - WHY?

I saw a heavily pregnant woman at the maternity ward (looked like she was on drugs, you can just tell these things...) after I had Keira, I was outside phoning OH, and I saw her screaming down a phone to someone, 5minutes later a car pulls up, she ran over, took something and ran inside....now I actually believe she just got some drugs.....why'd you do that is beyond me, but if it wasnt drugs it was effing shifty!

Must be horrible for those poor babies, and if the parents are addicted to drugs, what kinda of envirnoment are they going home too? Most parents struggle when they have a newborn, with the lack of sleep etc, how is someone dependent on heroin going to manage? I just visulise a baby crying in a cot like those NSPCC adverts, with a soiled nappy.....makes you want to cry.

Elle - are you wondering if OH should go? I imagine with the meds schedule and appointments, it isn't an option for you to go too?

When Chris was little I ended up putting my foot down with MIL, she kept wanting us to go for tea but only serving it at 7/7:30pm, it completely mucked up Chris everythime coz we were only getting home at 9:30pm ish so in the end I said we could only go if food was served at 6pm so that we could have Chris home for 8:30, he could cope with that slight change without fuss
I really didn't think it would affect her that much. She's barely slept all day. I'm holding her at the moment to try and get her off to sleep as she's over tired and just won't settle when I put her down.

Mel - congrats on the uni decision. Fingers crossed you get on the course you want.

is saudi classed as 'safe' by the gov? if so I'd be packing mine off in a flash :rotfl:

Please stop talking about adict babies, it makes me think of 'that' scene on trainspotting

When I was in with DS1 there was one in the ward who refused to go home (at that point the hospital couldn't force you to go home if baby was still in special care/NICU), we had to lock up anything of value as she would go into all the rooms and steal what she could. Police were in a few times a week. Then we saw her wailing on the front step that they took her babies. SS had went to her Mums and took her older boy (2 or there abouts) and the baby had been discharged into SS care at the same time. Police came and lifted her at the end up, she was stopping people coming in and out of the hospital. Her bags were packed for her and dumped outside.

There was another one who had a stillbirth (she took an OD to go into labour and the baby went into distress, she then refused to go to hospital and the baby died) and she just screamed constntly for her methadone untill she was taken away to the psychiatric hospital.

Now the new hospital have a 10 day policy. You can stay in for 10 days then you have to go home, which is a pain in the bum for folk like me (I didn't know if I was going to have to go home or not) but gets rid of the junkies.

    ETA, sorry Sami :( (((hug)))

How handy would they money be? Would you feel OK to stay here with Rhys by yourself for a week? If so, i'd be tempted towards him going. It is an awful lot of money for 6 days.

Is there any way you and Rhys could go too (I've no idea what the medical facilities are like there though).

Hmm that was my concern - it's working at an oil company too! Prime terrorist blowing up territory! He said "I don't know if I could be away from you both for that long".. my reply was "Well we ain't coming with you, that's for certain!"

Money would be extremely handy - he's got debt up to his eyeballs so he could pay off at least one debt if not another (has got a couple of priority ones not included in his DMP).

I think I could cope with Rhys - if not, I'd move back in with my parents like a shot! ;) The stress of going would be too much for me - I need to stay around the medical people I know and trust. I don't do well with not knowing everything is there and in place - I'm bad enough when it comes to collecting my baggage when we go on holiday and worrying if they put it on the right flight!

Elle - I'm doing alright, thanks. Still dealing with back pain from epidural (first time I'd had one, so was a bit surprised by that!). And my goodness, but Connor poos more than any baby ever! LOL And the typical sleep deprivation....

We used to boil the water, let it cool and then mix it as and when, but got a right lecture about how it needed to be mixed when the water was hot from both midwife and health visitor.

i make up all seth's bottles after he's gone to bed every evening with boiling water as otherwise the gaviscon doesnt dissolve, cool them quickly with cold water and store them in the bottom of the fridge, which is the coldest bit. then i heat them in the microwave when he needs them :D rebellious much? and guess what - he's still alive!!
a HV told me that they only say not to use a micro cos of hot spots, cos some incredibly stupid people have micro heated and then given it straight to LO instead of shaking it well first  as long as you shake it, its fine. the only thing i'd say about storing bottles is dont put them in the door, put them somewhere in the actual fridge somewhere, as the door is the warmest bit and each time you open it whatever is in the door warms and has to cool again
