  • Well, some good news.

16yo went to local shop and they said as they've known us for a few years and she is a friendly girl, she can have the 8 hours one week, 12 hours the next on a trial basis until after Christmas, then they shall review it. Plus if they get any sickness or holidays they may ask her if she fancies some extra work.

The net connundrum will be whether to ask her to pay her way in a small amount. If she is earning £28 one week and £42 the next, we'll have to find a fair way. She was the one who brought it up, which i'm impressed with. She has no more child benefit, so 14yo will become the higher rate, but will lose one lower rate. I don't want to be unfair and it's not about the money, but about her learning. She won't be going down the 'why should I pay' route of her pathetic mother, but still should see a good amount of her wages.

That's good news. Why not ask her for a certain amount a month, then she can put it aside each week, and put more aside in the weeks she earns more? If you don't want the money yourself you could always put it away in a savings account without her knowing, then she can have it back when she needs money for a deposit when she moves out, or whatever?

Would per month be better than asking weekly? I guess most bills are monthly or tri monthly. Is that why you suggested it?

I think when she earns more, she should keep the extra as a bonus for working harder?

It's a good idea with the savings for her. I'm trying to imagine what she'd say when she found out. Delight or disappointment that she thought she was helping out, but wasn't. Her pride may be hurt :o

She's not moving out for a while yet :p My little girl is going nowhere :o

I've just measured how tall Izzy is - 67cm, so she is still bang on the 75th centile. (she was bang on the 50th for weight last week, so she will be tall and skinny if she carrys on like this). If she follows along the curve she will end up 5 foot 9. I will have to start wearing heels ;)
Have you done the calulation in the red book? its not very surprising tho, it basically worked out that the boys will be about the same height as their dad :p

I wonder whether the reason some ask you to provide your own water is in case the LO gets ill? So that you can't blame them as you provided everything? A little extreme I know but you know how daft the Health and Safety rules are sometimes!

MOTM - congratulations on 16yo getting a job! It's all things to go on the CV :)

I just received an Usborne Book called "This is my car" through the post. Could it be from Bizziebaby?

There's a street light at the edge of our front garden, so it shines in her bedroom window. I've got blackout linings on the curtains. Went up for a shower after she went to bed, and the little monkey was standing on her bed with a book on the windowsill. She turned round when she heard me and said "not out of bed and just reading a book Mam" :rotfl:
I used to do that but not when I was 2. Alice takes books to bed with her to cuddle these days.
I'm trying to get Keira to pronouce things clearer, I think it's normal for a 3year old not to be able to do that though isn't it? Anyways when she says chocolate it sounds like C**K. When she was at my mums the other week she was wanting chalk to draw on Ellie's chalkboard, she asked my mum for some "C**K please" Please tell me she will eventually be able to say that....it's embarrassing!
It's fairly usual for children to not be able to pronounce certain things correctly. Most learn over time but it's not that unusual for children to go to speech therapy to help. If you are concerned your GP or HV shold be able to give you an idea of what age it becomes enough of a concern to warrant doing anything about it.

I think my nightmare neighbour must have been listening to my conversations, because shes now got herself a baby carrier and using the light pushchair for the other child (instead of blocking our corridor with a HUGE double pushchair!)

I've now got a new neighbour next door, who for once seems normal! :) He's actually introuduced himself and asked who I am etc and reminds me of my dad lol.
That's great news - hopefully the improvements will have a positive impact on how you are feeling.

    Morning all :)

well, after sleeping through from 8 1/2 weeks (don't shoot me!) we were up at 10, 11, 1.30, 3 5.30 and up for good at 6.10.

Surely this is something to do with imminent weaning?!

    Please?!
We used to find disturbed sleep was the first sign of a cold with Alice but like FG says, there are many possible causes.

You could use a toothbrush. (Haven't tried it myself as we never had any problems with teeth but I'm sure I read it somewhere.)

16yo is very careful and precise with everything she does, so she looks after things very well. It may be a consideration to get cheaper. I've looked at what I have saved for Christmas and I could afford a more expensive pair and get a similar value for the others and still get lots of other things each, so maybe...All that saving and resisting temptations is paying off  I'll be sure to stay away from your heavy feet and try not to upset you :p

She's glowing. She feels like she's won Wimbledon, married Joe Jonas and won the adoration of her sisters all at once. I don't ever remember feeling like that :o Not that i'd want to marry Joe Jonas

My parents did this for me. I didn't know about it until last year, well over 18 months after I'd moved out but they held of mentioning it a) because it was tied up in a bond, and b) because they were waiting to sound me out to see if I suggested anything sensible to spend money on (didn't need it as a deposit as I moved in with OH who already owned his own home).

Like you say, mixture of delight and disappointment, but it had always been a bugbear of mine that they'd paid all of my sister's uni fees and given her an allowance (supposedly as she didn't have a job whilst at uni, although she did!) so it always felt that my "rent" was being taken off me to go straight to her when she'd already had so much

Over the years, it amounted to just over £4k. I've had £2k back to pay off all my debts (credit card which bought things for the house and a holiday, and a loan which bought my car) before I started my maternity leave, and I've asked them to hold on to the rest for a rainy day or to pay off part of what I owe them for the house renovations. I'm determined to make sure they know I've spent it on something significant and not just wasted it.

How much do helium balloons cost? Rhys is obsessed with them!

Mum got us three when he first came home and the last one is on it's last legs now. Rhys has got the ribbon twisted round his wrist and keeps pulling it down then letting it go a bit..

Gonna turn into an expensive habit if we get him more!

I will try, although may not succeed, in being fair. I've never had any real issues with one saying I favour another, but I sometimes feel I have unconsciously and try and redress the balance. I don't want any of them feeling how you did.

They have their savings from down the years, which is a decent sum each, although I suppose you can never have too much. She is sensible with money, although you never know who she may meet to help her spend it :o

I hope she remains sensible and does what you have and spend it wisely.
