Can I have a moan? Please feel fee to tell me I'm being an unreasonable cowbag...!

Yep, the OP has spent a week sending email messages and having to wait a day for a reply to avoid the cost of a quick phonecall which would get them an immediate answer.

Or conversely, the seller has spent a week sending cryptic emails and begging for a phone call for no logical reason that makes sense when all he had to do was send one email to name a time and place.0 -
Jacks, Make a note to self. Putting as your subject header "Feel free to call me an unreasonable cowbag..." is a rather bad idea. It seems to attract a certain type of person who is positively gleeful to have the opportunity to do just that.
We're not in DFW any more Toto!:D0 -
I don't know why everybody is going on about the cost of the call either...
because that was the only reason given
"Now being a moneysaver I didn't want to ring the mobile of somebody who may be abroad on holiday ..."
but it transpires there are other reasons that even if the phone call was free it would not be a suitable method of communication.0 -

Because she hadnt "clearly stated she prefer not to" she merely said she wouldnt call in case he was abroad.
I cant see how you can say a seller saying "call me to arrange collection" is a seller refusing to make collection arrangements
Maybe the seller has been at home but doesnt have a computer at home to make the arrangement via email? There could be all kinds of reasons a seller would prefer to deal with things over the phone, he is getting ready to go on holiday - maybe he doesnt have time to be sat around in front of a computer?
Like others have said, if you are going to avoid talking to a seller and even refuse to visit their house (to collect something you willingly bid on knowing it was collection only) then you shouldnt bid on a collection item if you are worried about stalkers, axe murderers etc.Missing Tesco R&R since Feb '07 :A & now a "Tesco veteran" apparently!

Jacks: We can collect any time. Just name a time and place.
Seller: You can collect when I get back from holiday. Call Me.
Jacks: Rather not call you when you're on your hols, and there's no urgency if we can't pick the item up for several weeks is there? But as I said, we can collect at any time to suit you.
Seller: You can collect when I get back from holiday. Call Me.
Jacks: Yep. As I think I may have mentioned we can come to collect at any time that suits you. Just name it and we'll be there.
Seller: Call me.
Yeah. That's why he wants Jacks to phone him because it's "quicker." Nothing mental or control freakery about this guy at all. :eek:0 -

So sorry about your horrible experience jacks xxx. Even without that I wouldn't want to ring an eBay random either. Especially as there was no need to discuss anything. If it was me I prolly would get somebody else to make the call, but i don't think someone should have to just because their eBay seller turns out to be a complete weirdo who won't answer a simple question.
It would really annoy me that he kept telling me what to do. How bad does he think you want this thing?

Okay. Thanks to everybody who has replied. This has been very illuminating.
By the way I'm deaf.
Not stone deaf, but not confident on the phone deaf.
My husband has now rung the seller, and he refuses to deal with anybody but me so...I think my spidey sense was right.
I'm only glad that due to my previous experiences with stalkers my address and phone number are not available to him on eBay.
Why on earth wouldn't he arrange collection with your husband?! steer clear , thats very odd indeed. What reason did the seller give as to why he wouldn't deal with your husband?0 -
I don't understand some peoples level of hostility for the girl when it's that stalkerish bloke whose making things hard.0

sunnysea83 wrote: »No offence OP but why dont you just ring him, hes asked you to ring him to arrange a suitable time to collect, if you ring him you maybe able to agree to collect before he goes away
when i buy something on ebay thats collection i always expect to have to call the seller to arrange collection and a number is the first thing i ask for. just as when i sell an item i emal my number to the buyer (collection only items) and ask them to give me a ring.
Why on earth should the buyer be forced to make a phone call?
Ebay provide a perfectly good messaging system.
Some people with poor hearing can't even use a phone.0
