    Why is the phone quicker?

    Because it a MOBILE?

He probably has the phone on him all the time whereas he may only be able to get on the computer at certain times to reply.

If I was selling a big item and the buyer refused to call me to arrange collection I would think that was odd personally.

I sold a scooter on Ebay a few weeks ago, the auction finished at 20:15 I sent the buyer a message straight away and he had called me by 20:30 and arranged collection for 8:00 the next morning, collected within 12hrs because we spoke on the phone and I gave him directions.
    Missing Tesco R&R since Feb '07 :A & now a "Tesco veteran" apparently! ;)

you see i must say i prefer to keep it to emails
    no mistakes or misunderstandings
all the details in black and white

Me too. Maybe the reason he wants you to phone Jacks is because he doesn't want the details recorded in black and white. Maybe he wants to do a dodgy deal to avoid fees or sommet? I'm shy anyway and i wouldn't want to ring up a strange man either. My dad would come with me to pick the thing up but he wouldn't see why we had to ring and have some kind of discussion when the guy could just say a time and have done.

I very rarely phone people as I have a phobia about them so I deal primarily in emails. I very rarely have any probelms
  • Every collection from eBay we've ever done has been sorted out via emails. Painless, plus both sides end up with a copy of what's been sent and received so there's less scope for misunderstanding.

Did you actually read the original post?

Yep, the OP has spent a week sending email messages and having to wait a day for a reply to avoid the cost of a quick phonecall which would get them an immediate answer.

I'm the same as some people who have posted, I hate talking to strangers on the phone. I'd make another female ring up and pretend to be me

Isn't the whole point of an online auction, that it's dealt with online? Why couldn't seller say "I'll be home Monday, Wednesday and Friday 5 - 9 and Tuesday during the day, when would you like to collect?"

He only had to be able to get to a computer once in order to respond with collection details, but he chose not to. After that ridiculous decision on his part the delay is all firmly his responsibility. He has now managed to be able to get to a computer on several occasions, but evidently he continues to refuse to make collection arrangements.

I find it very interesting that you find a buyer refusing to call you on the telephone "odd" when one only has to read this thread to see that there are many reasons why this might be the case.

You don't seem to find the reverse odd? A seller who refuses to give collection details by email and insists that a woman phone him? Even after she has clearly stated that she would prefer not to.
