My thougts exactly.
I lurk most of the time and when I read the fashion threads I really wonder at what a strange narcistic society we seem to be turning in to. Well some of us at least. It seems to me that the daily fashion thread is to fashion what Jeremy kyle is to Relate.
But that is only my opinion and there are plenty of other threads and topics that fit the same bill. I am not against freedom to post but please not daily threads. One long one, all you need to do is look at the last page each time. It works on other boards why not this one?
Quite.
Why is it that the "fashionistas" believe that their way is not only the only way but that they are exempt from doing what others have done? That is; to consolidate - I have already said elsewhere, that way they will prevent their precious views from being yesterday's chip-paper.0 -
Mrs Tine, appreciate your comments this morning. I do believe these matters are best left to be resolved by the board users in normal circumstances and that boards on forums on all sites have a tendency to evolve and change in character over time in the natural course of things.
I have copied below the note I sent to you in July regarding this matter, for general interest. The problem in this instance has been the tactics used to undermine the Fashion threads, which show signs of being extremely popular, but their development has been inhibited by unkind, unpleasant and unfair disruption of threads. (Many of those posts have been deleted by MSE, however this did not inhibit the bad behaviour from continuing)

Hi Mrs Tine
You may (or may not!!) recognise my name as one of the regulars, since the fashion threads appeared on the Health and Beauty Board.
The threads to date seem popular friendly and useful, however they do seem to attract from time to time rather pointed comments from a minority...re 'Fashion Threads', today. Whilst respecting their views, I feel uncomfortable participating in this kind of thread that tends to degenerate into unpleasantness. I started to wonder whether in the interests of harmony our daily thread "What are you wearing today?" might be better posted as a single ongoing thread. I know the fashion posters prefer the daily, this was just my thought!!
Any suggestions/ comments welcome. (These are my thoughts, haven't pm'd any of the other regulars.)
Cheers
Bron
What has sadly happened subsequently is that several regulars have indicated they are no longer prepared to put themselves in line as a target for this kind of negative behaviour and stopped posting and it has certainly deterred many other posters from joining in. 'Debate' or argument as I see it, has run for some days now.
The people who enjoy the fashion threads, which have a very MS contribution to make to MSE, fail to understand why people who don't like them, persist in reading them and complaining about them.
In the time that has elapsed since my note to you however, I can see that a Daily Thread works well in this instance. It adds a lively, fresh, up-to-date vibe to the posts and encourages new posters to join in. Longer threads tend to feel like more of an established group of posters and more daunting to newbies to contribute to. I also feel, within the constraints of MSE rules, that actual users should be allowed to decide how they wish to post. Left to its own devices, (without additional sarcastic comments and argument that keep it bobbing up) the Daily thread will drop off the front page by the following day. I believe there is PLENTY of room for everyone to get on with their business on the Health, Beauty and Fashion Board, without all this nonsense.
Anyway, more words than I would have wished on the subject this morning, but as one of the original members and regulars on the fashion threads there are my views.0 -

I had already been posting before suki made her input (although I am heartily relieved to see it) and did not "wade in" (God, you lot have a charming turn of phrase when roused) afterwards. I have (annoyingly) been reading and posting here since early this morning.
And yes, it DOES blummin' matter if it's daily or weekly - for all the reasons stated. (suki's was a new one to me as I have high-speed broadband but you have totally overlooked it.)
I am not sure if selfish can be applied to a group of people but that's what I am seeing here. I don't want to stereotype but it's not surprising me.
My God!! You seem to very riled about the whole thought of a fashion thread dont you??
I have gone over my whole comment in no-where do I see a "charming turn of phrase" as you put it. I just said that you and ab always seem to wade in on the daily fashion thread. That is my view.
May I then kindly suggest that if the whole thought of fashion and our thread turns you and some other off then dont read it*. You do have a choice you know!
*damn sure I will burn in hell for that comment*total airhead, total bimbo, very superficial:D0 -
An Observation: While looking at the board I noticed the daily threads attract about 60 posts and that is with the bickering. I think it might be less without.
Yet the low carb diet thread has over 4160 posts!!!! that is about 70 daily threads:eek:
I wonder about Mrs Tines post too as that must mean the only people who can see the low carbs thread are those with high speed broadband.
Surely it is time for the guides to intervene and merge the threads into one.Flames in the Garden of Eden

This thread is really making me quite disheartened. LitaFord and GotToChange (you again!!
), you say you want diplomacy and you're only stating your opinions and you're entitled to them and so on... yet you STILL make snide remarks and hurtful (to some) comments!
We're not narcissistic, we don't have 'precious views', you don't have to put the term fashionista in inverted quotes to demonstrate your distain - all these things are dissuading people from posting and it's unnecessary. State your opinions and move on. I think we've come to some kind of ramshackle agreement to have a weekly thread - no need to carry on with the unkind remarks.
And maybe in order to stop the threads turning into general chatter, we should try and reign our focus back in to money saving? Lostinrates has made some good suggestions about how we can do this, so why don't we give it a try? Although I really don't see anything wrong with wishing other posters a good morning, a get well soon or a good night!0 -

Ok grammargirl I hate all this bickering
Lets try and have some calm xxtotal airhead, total bimbo, very superficial:D0 -
See now the difference to me is that the carb, the slimmers world, the depression threads - JUST ONE OF EACH to ignore or delve into if I have the interest
Fashion - "what am I wearing" one or two a day
And I really wouldnt even object to those if they were at all money saving but what the hell has " my daughter lives in wellies" in reply to a comment about blue wellies got to do with any of us, money saving or asking or giving advice - its pure gossip and narcissim0 -

You've got that right.
I suppose that I took unnecessary objection to the way you said "wade in"... pretty much the way objection has been (sometimes unnecessarily) taken to any word against anyone who isn't in support of the fashion threads in their current incarnation. Remember, that what is coming back at me is getting quite, quite personally insulting.
I stand my my original point *sigh* it is the number, less so the content.0 -

Nope - not "me again"; me still.
I actually have the time to see this through at the moment. If there is any expectation that I will roll over and play dead (until I am good and ready), then that's best put to one side.
I have not at any point said anything deliberately hurtful to any individual; happy to be corrected if you want to quote me somehow. In the course of raising an objection, I find myself insulted on many levels - and then of course, I am severely "outnumbered". Doesn't make me wrong though. Look back at the threads you have all created - try seeing yourselves through others eyes. Narcissistic is putting it kindly.
Just in the wrong place is all.
This bit would be a really, really good idea.0 -
