State your opinions and move on. I think we've come to some kind of ramshackle agreement to have a weekly thread - no need to carry on with the unkind remarks.
However the moment anyone questions anything up go the automatic defences to protect ones ego.
You are not saying to a friend "Oh I have that wonderful dress I bought in Monsoon on today" you are in effect telling the whole world. In my business if you stick you head up above the parapet you expect to get shot at.
As others have said though it is not the content but the sheer number. I would also refer you to my post above regarding numbers.Flames in the Garden of Eden
Heaven in pieces at my feet
I faced the raging ruins
Of a million sleepless nights
I need to rest my weary head

GotToChange wrote: »Agreed (and as a bone-fide wellie wearer - altho' mine are top of the range Hunters:rolleyes:).
So are mine because I have bought cheep as cheeps fashion ones in the past and cracked them in weeks. Wellies can only be hunters - fashionable or not0 -
Can I just throw this in.
I never even heard of the word "fashionista" until it popped up on here.
So I went looking and it is defined in two places - wiki and urban dictionary. Neither of which I would be using for a game of scrabble
However, heres the definition:
Wiki :
Fashionista may refer to- Fashionista (TV series), an Australian TV series.
- Fashionistas, an American pornographic film
- The Fashionistas, minor villains in the Kim Possible series
- Fashion victim, an avid follower of fashion
Urban Dictionary::
A person devoted to fashion clothing, particularily unique or high fashion.
A person not to be called a fashionista would be someone who obsessivly follows trends. REAL fashionistas do not believe in trends.
That type of person would be more correctly labeled a fashion !!!!! or a shallow !!!!!.
2. fashionista
A term used to define a woman with a penchant for shopping and a natural flair for combining both current and vintage fashionable trends.
fashionista 217 up, 223 down
A person, usually female, who keeps the large majority of their attention and interest on their clothing/make-up/general appearance, and cares little of anything else. They typically judge others, particularly potential mates, solely on looks and cliques. In lamen's terms, a fashionable sheep.
Fashionista 32 up, 40 down
One who believes in the power of fashion. Fashionistas are typically either stylish women or homosexual men.
As an example of a successful fashionist government, they cite the period between Thanksgiving and Christmas in New York City (1999) almost religiously, in which local fashionistas overthrew the municipal government.
fashionista 23 up, 32 down
The fashion police.
Fashionista is the lexical combination (see 'portmanteau') of the words Fashion, which is the socially decided (see 'groupthink') garb to be worn by those wishing to be accepted in high society, and Sandinista, a Nicaraguan authoritarian political party.
Despite recent trends in attempt to make this term more acceptable it must be noted that its etymology lends major negative conotation and it is ill-advised to use this word as a positive qualifier.
Fashionista 35 up, 45 down
Someone, usually a girl, with style and sophistication. Someone who reads a lot of Vogue.

hmmm if those who don't like the daily thread didn't post on it then it would drop off the front couple of pages much quicker........ and would presumably then be much less irritating that a sticky at the top of the page......
Personally as someone who has infrequently used this board for a long time and also likes the health and beauty threads, and occasionally posts on fashion threads I dislike seeing long threads. It is difficult to skip to the recent stuff and to dip in and out. It makes the thread look more cliquey and is more difficult for newbies or occasional posters to join in.
Seems to me that a weekly thread would be a good compromise, and perhaps just a couple of people could agree to create these to minimise the risk of multiple threads on the same topic.
While I'm here and bandying about opinions, I think it is completely understandable that fashion was put here and that it is a better fit than elsewhere. There are MSE issues associated with clothes and fashion, it is a legitimate thing to discuss and sometimes the boundaries do blur.
For example a post about how to get nice glossy hair can be health related as you might advise a vitamin supliment, it might be beauty related as someone else might advise a deep conditioning treatment or it could be seen as fashion as the cut colour and styling would also play a part. You could pigeonhole it into one category but then you would loose the expertise of the others on this board and you need a million and one different boards!
Dental threads are another one, and one of the reaosns I initially came to this board. If you are asking about a filling or an abscess it is undoubtably health, but when you get onto orthodontic and cosmetic treatments at some point it becomes beauty and even fashion. I think that the current fad for artificially glowing white teeth is a fashion and nothing more, one day it will look dated, much the same as trends for suntanning or hair removal change. So is it fashion or beauty or health if I post about wanting to look sunkissed throughout winter?????0 -

I actually have the time to see this through at the moment. If there is any expectation that I will roll over and play dead (until I am good and ready), then that's best put to one side.
I have not at any point said anything deliberately hurtful to any individual; happy to be corrected if you want to quote me somehow. In the course of raising an objection, I find myself insulted on many levels - and then of course, I am severely "outnumbered". Doesn't make me wrong though. Look back at the threads you have all created - try seeing yourselves through others eyes. Narcissistic is putting it kindly.
Just in the wrong place is all.
This bit would be a really, really good idea.
I don't think I'm narcissistic at all. I like to discuss clothing. I'm more interested in reading what other people have on and where they got it from that telling people what I'm wearing, but I do because I like to feel like I'm part of the thread. I'm not a lurker, I like to be involved and participate on a topic that interests me. So, I don't agree with your above comment.
I don't think you intended to hurt anyone's feelings and if I'm honest, people shouldn't be hurt by comments made by strangers on the internet. But some people are not as willful or secure as you and I.
And I think we all agreed the term 'fashionista' was rather tongue in cheek. If you actually read the threads, many, MANY people are wearing sweats, pyjamas, jeans and a t-shirt, etc, and are under no illusion that they are 'fashionistas' at that particular moment.0 -

So, why the need to tell anyone about it?
As far as the content goes, that is one of the things that puzzles me - the "I'm not dressed yet but will be wearing"; the "I'm wearing this now but will be wearing that later"; the
"this is what I'll be doing when I wear a, b or c.."
It all seems so very odd and is no doubt a 21st century thing - but shows a stunning lack of realisation of how quite tragic it really is.
I don't write "fashionista" this way to express my disdain but because you yourselves decreed it's use to be tongue-in-cheek (unless any one of the Urban Dictionary definitions does actually fit?)
Having said that, content isn't the issue from my p.o.v. (funny as I find it - especially as the threads themselves utterly underscore the notion of "...it takes all sorts....") - always has been the way the threads bombarded the forum in the first place and the dogmatic stance that is now being taken (and yes, by me too).0 -
And I really wouldnt even object to those if they were at all money saving but what the hell has " my daughter lives in wellies" in reply to a comment about blue wellies got to do with any of us, money saving or asking or giving advice - its pure gossip and narcissim
I think its called light hearted banter or humour sweetie:Dtotal airhead, total bimbo, very superficial:D0 -
esmecullen wrote: »I think its called light hearted banter or humour sweetie:D
In what world?
Banter? Nope - just a statement.
Humour? In what way was it funny?
A classic example of the way the daily fashion thread [STRIKE]
plummets [/STRIKE] evolves.
Apologies - I just re-read, it was meant to be funny - co-ordinated/light blue. Yes, I get it now.
Of course that's only funny if it's seen as unusual - my wellies are always co-ordinated - when I wear them I wear my sludge green ensemble.
(Riding doesn't necessarily mean that she automatically wears wellies:when I rode every day, I wore full boots or jodhpur boots with chaps. The wellies I keep for the mucky stuff, riding in them is a no-no.)0 -
So, a weekly thread it is, then?0
-
If anyone is interested, whether they admit it or not, its my comment about my daughters wellies, I was just chatting with esmecullen as we had something in common regarding fashion, my daughters wellies are Hunters, she also has Muckers and specific riding boots, she loans a pony and chooses to be at the yard just about all day every day, she mucks out, poo picks, leads and does anything else required of her and of course she rides.
Its really not hard is it, if you don't like the thread don't read itI don't care if its daily or otherwise but it is fun, embrace your inner shallowness, its painfully obvious you know you want to:rotfl:
