    I don't particularly want to get into a legal debate on this subject;
Absoutely. I was only really throwing that in to make sure that people didn't just assume that they'd be able to argue out of the fixed deal later and so put off making a decision ntil too late.

So long as you do your research, and make the deal hat is right for you, how can anyone else argue?

Last month I decided to switch from SP to EDF.

I also had a call from a SP rep on Friday, quoting that they could beat EDF prices by 13% until July 2010.

I am awaiting another call on Monday to discuss this as I was busy.

Has anyone took this offer up, or are people staying with the online v5 from EDF?

    Regards,
    money_saver2000
Hi, I cannot see that, as I am now on Freshstart with SP as of 1 sep. and it is 5% below their standard with a guarantee that it will always be their lowest rate or match their lowest tariff. The rep on the doorstep on friday told me I was on their best rate and could not be bettered by them. Curious to see your outcome.I have been saying for a while SP are due to bring in a new lower tariff to compete with EDF et.al.Keep us informed;:j
  • Went down the bank yesterday and cancelled my direct debit to SP, I am in credit over and above what I will owe them for the bill when I switch over (I switched electric on 7th Sep, waiting for confirmation of Gas switch) so I don't want to give them more money next month as well, (getting it back from them again might be a bit of a headache).so will see what happens now.

As many others, I was put on the fixed tariff even though I opted out. I PM'd the rep here and asked to be moved to 'online saver 6' and my account now says I'm on 'on-line saver'.

Question is, is that Discounted energy online fuel or Online energy saver6 NSC . ???

Why cannot deal names match those shown on the account page?
'Online saver' is apparently what their system shows when you are on the online energy saver tariff - why they cant display the exact name is beyond me. You can only find out the exact tariff you are on if you look at the PDF version of your bill as it is displayed in the top right hand corner.

To generate a bill just enter your meter readings and wait 24hrs for one to be generated.

You're lucky to be able to log onto SP online web page, the ones that decided to opt out and switch companies have been blocked from entering there site, weeks before we've even completed the switch and had a chance to work out our final bills, how sneaky is that. it seems as soon as they have a sniff of you switching supplier they remove you from there web site so you have'nt got a clue what is going on regarding your final bill etc.
  • Yet, somewhat ironically, when your final bill arrives in the post, it comes in an envelope that says, 'Check your bill online at www.scottishpower.com'.

I was sent an email warning me that access would shortly be denied and to visit to get any information I wanted before this happened:

"We're sorry you're planning to leave ScottishPower in the next week or two.

For your protection, access to your online account will only be available for a limited time from the date of this email. This is in line with when your supply is expected to transfer to your new supplier. "

... though true it stops you watching what is happening with your final readings, etc.
A chicken crossing the road is poultry in motion
  • I did'nt get any warning E-Mail or anything they just blocked me, so they must let you log on to view your final bill then, I suppose it's a case of when it suits them type of thing, well roll on complete switch over, lets get back to sanity.

SP has handled the ending of the Aug 2009 fixed tariff like a headless chicken.
There's been no coordination and different people have had completely different communications (or not) from them.

My switch to EDF is in progress and SP offered me a case of wine to stay with them. Later, I received two emails advising me my online account would be unavailable within a day or two and it has now been blocked.
A relative, also switching to EDF was offered £40 cashback to stay with them but did not receive any emails before his account was blocked !
SP have offered so many different 'cheapest' tariffs to different people that it's become laughable.
They deserve to lose every customer who leaves because of their incompetence.
  • I opted out of my capped rate at the end of August, and on checking my bank account, I have been charged a total of £100.50 (dual fuel) monthly direct debit on the new Scottish Power rate (while I wait to change to EDF) and I have been advised that my new DD with EDF will be £70 per month

Looks like a major saving at the moment, but will have to see how it works out over the year.
