I'm really annoyed with SP (and Quidco) at the moment. I signed up to SP back in April when the cashback was £100. I only got £62 but was told I would get the outstanding £38. £38 did show in the system, with an estimated payment date of August. August came and went, payment date adjusted to~September! So I contacted Quidco to ask about the delay. This was their reply:
    Thank you for your enquiry.

The outstanding £38.00 from this Scottish Power transaction validated in August 2009. You should therefore receive payment for this by the end of December 2009.

Please continue to monitor your account as this transaction status will update to 'received' once payment to your account has been scheduled.

    Kind regards,
I'm annoyed as SP/Quidco appear to be treating this £38 as a totally new transaction, meaning it has to proceed through all the stages before payment. I don't see why this should be the case. it's not a new transaction, it should be a simple case of correcting an error. Adding what is owed to what has already been processed and paid.

There's no way I'm waiting until the end of the year. I'll pay more in bills between now and then, than I'll recoup in the £38.

    Time to switch I think.

Just took a look at my direct debits on my current account, Scottish Power have set up two new ones, with new account numbers, presumably to separate out gas and electricity.

I can understand separating the final gas and electricity bills, but setting up new direct debits, and new account numbers without informing me, seems crazy.

Especially since my final electricity bill is in credit, so they don't need to take any money off me!

Still waiting for the final gas bill.

Hi, from past experience with them if you are in credit they will use these new direct debits to refund what they owe you. As the switches go through on different dates they set up a DD for each.

Do they need to set up a DD to refund money?

I hope not- I deleted the direct debits from my account the other day. I thought they had been set up because of the change in service after 31 August.

    Hi folks,

When you are a ScottishPower customer receiving both gas and electricity from us you actually have 3 account numbers. One for gas, one for electricity and a Dual Fuel summary. You only ever see the Dual Fuel summary, but the other two accounts are linked to this in the background.

Your monthly Direct Debit payment consists of two individual parts, for gas and electricity respectively.

When you apply to transfer away your Dual Fuel account is terminated and you revert to the two individual gas and electricity accounts. This is due to the fact that in the majority of cases one fuel leaves on a different date to the other. In some cases only one fuel is being transferred and this covers this eventuality also.

Your individual DD instructions will remain in place until your new supplier provides final meter readings and your ScottishPower accounts are closed.

If your final bills show a credit balance this will be refunded by cheque, not paid into your bank account as some posters have suggested.

I hope this clears up a little of the confusion surrounding the issue for you all.

Thanks for explaining that Craig. It makes sense.
  • I rang scot power today & they told me the prices i am been charged will drop from 3% to 4% on my "Discounted energy dual fuel account oct 2009 account" yet there is no information on their website to reflect this ;there is however a from 3% to 4% discount available for the standard account .Does Scottish power have to resort to lies now to retain customers. With all the millions of people coming to this site youd think they'd be more concerned about their reputation ;any customers they lose now because of the dire way they are treating people will remain with thems for yrs &yrs & probably have a snowball effect.Having a company representitive come to this site and help people with there queries may help but only if they do right by them.I'd like to ask the Rep if they do lie to people and why there system is designed so badly ?

    Hi Redbiro,

We certainly don't lie to customers as you've suggested, but it is disappointing to hear that you feel unsure over the information you've been giving with regards the offers we have available at present.

In some cases new products and tariffs are released and the website takes a while to catch up.

I'd always recommend calling us directly on 0800 400 200 for specific advice on any tariffs that might suit you best.

Hope you get the answers you are looking for.

Looks like Scottish Power are in deep ***t for trying to make its customers transfer to the new 2010 capped tarrif by just sending emails. If emails were missed or went into junk then the customer would be unaware of the new "enforced" contract.
