Hi, I agree with that , generally for complete 'safety' allow 6 weeks however in this case 14 days should ensure that the actual start of the switch doesnt take place until after 30 Aug and the actual swich itself would be late Sept / early Oct. If unsure always play safe however.0

Of course, as well as contacting the new supplier to initiate the switch you also have to contact the incumbent to tell them you want to change to a penalty free tariff.
Surely you are changeing to a penalty free tariff when you opt out on the E-Mail so there is no need to contact your present supplier. to inform them you are switching.0 -

I'm not happy that when you click the link on the email it just takes you to a screen saying you have opted out, but no email is sent confirming it. I've contacted them asking for confirmation that they received the request.0 -
Following a call to SP i have done the maths (think it correct) for my usage and the following are my results
All compared to my current bill
SP online Saver 6 0.7% less
SP capped until sept 2010 4.8% more (includes dual fuel and internet savings most people don't calculate and the regional pricing)
edf online 5 5.8% less
I've heard a lot of bad things about EDF especially the recent fine, what are peoples views should i be concerned?? Also a quick look on shows the edf pricing is only valid until july 20100 -

As I understand it, if you choose the July 2010 now you will pay a £50 penalty if you are on dual fuel. If you wait until 1st Sept you will have automatically have been changed to the capped Sep 2010 tariff, so you will incur a £50 penalty if you switch then to the Jul 2010 tariff (if still available on that date).
I believe your best bet is to opt out of the of the capped Sept 2010 tariff via the email now. That will automatically put you on to their Standard tariff on 1st Sep. On that date you can then go to your account online and switch to any other available tariff without penalty.

I don't think that is right. The email I received said I would automatically go on the capped tarrif on 1st September. I the have the choice to move onto any other SP plan at no cost. ie no cancellation fees.0 -
Am I alone in NOT having had an email re. the end of the deal - I've not had the option to opt out yet!0

Hi,I have just been on edf,s website to do a comparison, although I have already done it with energyhelpline+moneysupermarket.com.EDF for whatever reason do not let me do a direct comparison as they say my details are not correct as I know they are.when asked to show which price plan I,m on with SP, Fixed online energy ncd is ok, however when gas is asked, It only gives 4 options, of which fixed online energy ncd is not one, so cannot compare. As regards the other 2 sites, they say they do not support edf.Uswitch do, but each one varies by as much as£100. where do these sites get there figures from? unless you get the unit prices yourself and do your own calculations, that,s the only way of
getting a true comparison.£200 sounds good if it can be substantiated??? ADDITION.I have now got EDF,s unit prices,elec12.9p for first 900kwh p/a then8.01 gas5.175 for first 2680kwh p/a then3.209, this is version 5 although the discounted is better bt 0.5%.for mein yorks my bill with edf will be £952-£50 disount-broker discount as against SP £1050on the new fixed july 2010 tariff.hope this helps anyone

Sorry joe134 your last sentence seems to have got lost in translation!!!! I think it reads that you would be better off with EDF?
I get frustrated with comparison sites as they all seem to give a different answer. They don't seem to have the correct (SP) plan that you are already on to use as the comparison (as you have pointed out above)
I have been going to each providers site and getting their tariffs (if they provide them!!) and use an old bill to work out what it would cost on that tariff. Then compare it to what it actually cost. Bit long winded but you get there.
I have briefly looked at EDF online v5.1 but there is no night rate for electricity. Can that be right? I haven't done the math yet.
The SP Online Saver 6 seems to be the best for me so far.0
