...Officially there is no grace period although they may not contact SP for several days, once you have clicked you have changed, ...
This is quite contrary to both the email (see post #116 )I got from EDF, & the advice of the person I spoke to when I also rang them: in both cases I got the same info. - that there is a 12 day period for 'cooling-off', only after which do they contact your existing provider. After that there's 10 working days' notice for electricity change, & 17 working days' notice for gas.
Not wanting to miss the EDF deal, & with the SP rep's input in mind, I took the chance!0 -
My first post on here. So Hello.
I've read most of this thread but apologise if I've missed something and am repeating a question.
When entering the information on the cash back comparison site, do you put in the name of the tariff which is ending with your current supplier, or the one they are switching you to. (Not possible with SP as it isn't listed yet). If it's the one that's ending you surely don't get a true comparison? How can they tell if you will be paying less in September with edf if they don't have the new SP tariff for September.
I ask because I've been looking at the SP/edf prices over the last two days. I'm told I'll save £245 per year by switching to edf but the edf price per unit is higher than the new SP one. edf have no standing charge, but my new standing charge will be about 50% less from September if I stay with SP, and it's hard to tell if I will save by paying more per unit but with no standing charge.
Also I have input my current costs per month for the comparison but I have a suspicion that I may be paying a bit too much at present, which may skew the comparison.0 -

Hello & welcome.
Good questions; I'm sure someone will be able to answer, but I just wanted to suggest that you can get your SP consumption details if you go to their website, sign in to 'My Account' then look at 'Bill & consumption history ' - you need to do a few sums but it should help.0 -

When I spoke to SP Customer Services Pers a couple of weeks ago, I happened to ask about switching supplier, they informed me that if SP recieved an application for me to switch to another supplier before the 25th august they would penalise me £50, it seems now this penalty date has now moved to the 31st august, have we got an SP Rep at hand to clarify this date issue, there is a bit of confusion here. my feelings are that as long as I have not actually switched suppliers before the 31st august when my contract expires I can't see how I have broken my contract with SP. just because they get an application for me to switch in say 6 weeks time after the 31st is not relevant. I have still honoured my contract to them.0 -

Unless you input your actual annual usage figures in kwhs, then the comparison sites are next to useless. Ring up your present supplier and ask for your annual gas and electric usage figures (they are legally obliged to give you these), make a note of them then hit the same switching site and see how different the result looks.Call me Carmine....
HAVE YOU SEEN QUENTIN'S CASHBACK CARD??0 -

Rang Scottish Power this morning on 0800 400 200 much better than 0845 number. As I am also on Fixed Price until 31 August 2009 queried the position relating to coming out of the fixed price and going onto other deals. Was offered 'Saver 6' (3% Lower, same penalty) until Sept 2010. Queried 'Freshstart' and was told that this is a variable rate 5% lower with I believe same penalty. When questioned about the date re-opting out by 31 August was told that if I did not opt out and then decided to go onto another product that I would have until 13 October to do so. Thought that the final date of opt out was 30 September so now totally confused, have Scottish Power moved the date back?0
