Yeah the paperwork will stack up a bit and you need to make sure your reading the important stuff and not letting the idle threats from creditors get to you

Good to see you and OH are able to deal with this like adults (after reasonable amount of yelling)

Good luck hope you stick with it. It's going to be worth it in the end.

I agree with this - look out for words like may, could. People often miss those and think the letter says that xyz dire consequence WILL happen. The DCA's count on this to scare you.
Unless I say otherwise 'you' means the general you not you specifically.

Well done on starting to get it all sorted Jodan.

I wondered what you had spent the money on? I know you said living above your means, but if that included food, wine, contributions to travel/holidays/days out and clothes for all of you then I don't think you should see this as only your debt. As someone said earlier this applies even more if your OH earns more than you but expects you to pay exactly half of household expenses. This would mean you're paying a higher percentage of your income leaving you far less than him for your personal needs which may well be higher, (eg women's haircuts seem to cost more etc). If you then add on how much household admin and housework you each do you may get a fairer picture.

If some of the money went on food, you all ate it I expect and if on stuff for your child that's a joint responsibility too. How come he didn't notice what was coming in to the house? Is he really paying his way here?

Sorry if I'm way off the mark and the debt was all clothes, make up and beauty treatments for you (!) and your husband is very generous with his time and money. Your posts though seem to be a little wary and I don't understand how it's all down to you.

Was the budget you were working to actually do-able or did you rely on credit because there wasn't enough to cover it all?

Hi everybody, been a stressful few days. Been getting rejection letters through post off virtually all creditors. Am gonna keep them to one side in case I need them for future reference. Just waiting for a couple of statements then I can send everything off to cccs. Hoping to start plan on 1st October as cccs said 1st September was not realistic target date. Will send out another round of nominal payments to all creditors in a couple of weeks to ensure they're still getting a monthly amount of me.

I felt i had to reply to above thread as hubby is pretty outstanding at managing his money. He did use to earn slightly more than me but since beginning of year had to take a 30% pay cut due to recession or there would have been many redundancies. I have to confess that debt was easy to hide as I used to spend money on things by lying about work bonuses (he now knows they don't exist). Went through a stage of holidaying too often with much wealthier friends (trying to keep up with the jones's). Obviously since his pay cut it is easier to explain that we can't afford lifestyle we used to have. Feel awful he's lying to cover for my debt. He is a great person who does more than his share of cooking and cleaning, and it's taken this debt to make me realise what I could have lost. Will clear this debt and spend rest of our lives appreciating him.Big thanks to all for looking out for me. X :D

Thanks, will do. Just didn't want people to think I'm a big whinger! Just had a look at some of rejections and they do use words like; may and could (very sneaky).

    Hi peeps.

Hope all are well, Not much happening at the minute, all is pretty quiet on the creditor's chasing me front. Had no luck with any of them but will continue paying minimums and referring them to cccs. Mbna have already referred my debt to collection agency. (typical of mbna from what people on here are saying).
Will keep in touch. Hugs to all. x

Keep at it Jodan, it can be frustrating when you want definate responses from your creditors when you first start out. Hang in there, big hugs :)

    Debt-free and Proud!
    Hi Jordon,

Approx 5 of my debts were passed to debt collection agencies and to be honest they were easier to deal with then people like MBNA and Egg were! I found that they all honored my cccs agreement and didnt chase to reassess my in comings / our goings during the 2-3 yrs i continued on the dmp. Also they were the ones that gave me the best 'deal' when i went for full and final settlement figures.

Dont get disheartened sweetie, this is the hardest bit, in a couple of months when this is all sorted you can relax a little.

Something that i wanted to add - when you go through your outgoings with the cccs dont under estimate anything just because you want them to accept you on a dmp. I did this but luckily the lady who talked me through it was very good and kind of said 'hang on you cant manage on that'. I under estimated my petrol big time which came back to kick me in the butt. Make sure you put haircuts in there, i worked in an office so i had a clothes allowance but also a dry cleaning allowance (i dont buy clothes that need dry cleaning but the little buffer it gave me was a huge help). I was concerned that they wouldnt let me keep sky even though it was the min package but i didnt have a going out budget so it was explained that sky was my only 'entertainment' as such.

    It all adds ups honey.

    Take care
