Just keep the letters in case you need to refer to them in the future

It's easy to give in to that negative voice that chants "cant do it" BUT we lift each other up.
We dont count all the runners ahead of us & feel intimidated.
Instead we look back proudly at our journey, our personal struggle & determination & remember that there are those that never even attempt to reach the starting line.

Well done on starting to get it all sorted Jodan.

I wondered what you had spent the money on? I know you said living above your means, but if that included food, wine, contributions to travel/holidays/days out and clothes for all of you then I don't think you should see this as only your debt. As someone said earlier this applies even more if your OH earns more than you but expects you to pay exactly half of household expenses. This would mean you're paying a higher percentage of your income leaving you far less than him for your personal needs which may well be higher, (eg women's haircuts seem to cost more etc). If you then add on how much household admin and housework you each do you may get a fairer picture.

If some of the money went on food, you all ate it I expect and if on stuff for your child that's a joint responsibility too. How come he didn't notice what was coming in to the house? Is he really paying his way here?

Sorry if I'm way off the mark and the debt was all clothes, make up and beauty treatments for you (!) and your husband is very generous with his time and money. Your posts though seem to be a little wary and I don't understand how it's all down to you.

Was the budget you were working to actually do-able or did you rely on credit because there wasn't enough to cover it all?

Yeah the paperwork will stack up a bit and you need to make sure your reading the important stuff and not letting the idle threats from creditors get to you

Good to see you and OH are able to deal with this like adults (after reasonable amount of yelling)

Good luck hope you stick with it. It's going to be worth it in the end.

    Hi,

I dont come on this board very much these days mainly because i lived on here for two + years and just needed a break. However i just wanted to say that i was in your situation three / fours years ago (my old posts will be on here somewhere). I had previously been bailed out by hubs, a huge amount of debt but then stupidly built it back up again. I went the CCC DMP route and they were great. I stayed on my dmp for two years, i took an evening job to increase my income (already worked full time) and saved the extra money so i was able to make full and final settlements. Its been an extremely hard three years but i am now debt free and never want to see a credit card in my life ever again!

Oh and yes, i did tell my husband what i had done, but only after around 20 months of my dmp so i could physically show him how much debt i had cleared by myself (i was actually very proud of myself for the first time).

Now i have to budget everything, i watch every penny and record everything i spend. You will come out of this a better person, a stronger more in control person, i promise.

PM me if you ever fancy a chat

p.s. one thing i was advised to do when i wrote to my creditors with the token payments was to put on the letter that i would only correspond with them in writing from now on and any unwanted calls would be classed as harrassment - seemed to do the trick as i didnt get any, im sure its worded a lot better then what i have out on the cccs website - goodluck x

Small suggestion...you say you can't do Ebay because of previous problems, but do you have a friend with an Ebay account who would be willing to sell for you? I did this for a pal whose debts had got out of hand as well. I couldn't/didn't want to assist financially but I sold all sorts of odds and ends for her, kept track of the cash and handed it over at the end of November to her so she could buy Christmas presents for her.

Just a thought. Good luck with it anyway!
    Val.
