Beat Budget Airline Charges Discussion: Ryanair

Well I've just tried a dummy booking and it did seem totally clear that the coach option was a coach. The price was exactly the same as booking direct with National Express. As for the wrong date on the return, I travel on National Express a lot and their booking system has only ever given me the dates I put in.
The fare rules on my booking said "Note: The fare you have selected is refundable but not amendable" exactly the same as it said if I tried booking direct with National Express. National Express do charge a fee by the way if you cancel.
Basically you are booking on the National Express Web-site it just has the word Ryanair next to National Express at the top, Ryanair provide the link and get a commission.
You could book direct with National Express but you'll get the same thing, although if you went through TCB you'd get commission instead of Ryanair.0 -
Hi,
is this the right place to ask for advice about flying with RyanAir?
I've just booked my flights and wanted to make sure I was not caught out with its various hurdles!
My main question is does the hand luggage allowance also apply to my children who are 2 and 5? Me and my wife will probably end up carrying the luggage for them but wanted to check if thats an issue.
Thanks0 -
As long as you have only got the one piece of hand luggage each it doesn't matter who carries it.
The 2 year old & the 5 year old have paid their fare so they are entitled to their hand baggage.
Just make sure that wifey can get her handbag into her one piece of hand luggage.
Sometime they really do enforce the one piece rule & they make everybody put their handbags in the one case.
Causes some great entertainment at the gate !!!!!

Just stick to what's included in the ticket you paid and you'll be fine. Don't forget though that maximum means maximum.0 -
Hi
Travelling on Ryanair to join a cruise. Can we take my partners DJ in a suit carrier as hand luggage for him - it may not meet the dimensions of the small case but would squash into the bag checker thing at the airport. He will have no other hand luggage. There are 5 of us traveling and I have paid for 20kgs of luggage but don't want the suit in the case if possible.

Maybe, it doesn't conform to the allowed dimensions so you're left with hoping that they ignore it on the day.
If push came to shove he could always put it on at the gate0 -
I just booked flights on Ryanair and I noticed that the return fare was in EUR if booked one way from Tallinn and in GBP if booked as a return flight.
Thus, I booked two one way tickets paying in GBP on the way out and EUR on the way back.
I have a Caxton FX Global prepaid mastercard so used that to pay the EUR amount for the return leg.
But then right at the last moment, I noticed (too late) that it showed two amounts, one in EUR and one in GBP. You need to click on that link and then a new box opens to say that you can take the Ryanair rate converted to GBP or use the EUR rate. Untick the box if you want to pay in EUR. The GBP/EUR rate from Ryanair is very bad (3.5% worse than the Caxton rate and 7% below the today's spot rate).
On top of it, because my prepaid card charges me GBP1.50 for UK transaction, I got dinged with that too. I wish I had not hurried through it and looked at that.
S**t happens but just annoyed with Ryanair's shameless tactics. It just leaves a really bad taste in the mouth. This particular one does not even say that it will charge in GBP on the final screen.
In all, I ended up paying GBP 74.79 instead of 70.24, which Caxton would have charged had I noticed the "notice" on the exchange rate.
Hope this helps someone else in the future.0 -
Annoying, but probably still less than what it would have cost if you had booked as return and charged in £s.
Ryanair Dynamic Currency Conversions are poor compared to decent cards with good fx rates but probably comparable to standard fx conversions0
