Hand luggage only discussion

Is there any of the users of the SUB-0 G 19inch bag who could give me the gross external dimensions, in other words the bag including the wheels/stops and handle. From this forum I have gathered that the gross external dimensions are important. So if some one could help me out I would be most grateful.
Hi Cloggie
I have a Sub -0 G 19" bag which I have used on 16 Ryan Air flights (Stansted, Birmingham, Alicante & Madrid) without problems.
The height from floor to the top of the extendable handle (when closed) including wheels and stands is 55cms. There is a metal carrying handle which when lied flat does not cause it to exceed the 55cm.
The width from the outside edge of both wheels is 36cm.
The depth of the case from the rear edge of the wheel to the front of the case is 20cms.
There are two pockets on the front which if they are flat come within the 20cm however if you really fill the case and the pockets they add another 2 - 4 cms
I am happy with my purchase and have no connection with the manufacturers or retailers of the case. I usually only travel with hand luggage and pack the case so it appears not to be too full, to lessen the chances that it will be weighed when going into the departure area and so far I have been lucky.
I have tried it in the Ryan Air metal frames and it fits easily however I have not seen the cardboard boxes that others have previously mentioned.
Hope this helps0 -
I sometimes take tinned food for my friend. Would this be acceptable in hand luggage? I've only previously taken him items when I pay for hold luggage. I'd hate to have to throw stuff away or pay for the bag to go in the hold.0

I cannot think of a better container for a bomb.
Last time I flew, there was a super row going on about an open tub of "Vaseline".0 -
Not acceptable then. ;-)0

Seated Sheep, thanks for your reply, I hope there is no difference between the new style card boxes and the old metal frames.0

Going suitcase-less for first time next month between Stanstead and Turin with RyanAir. We have always used 2 canvas bags previously, a blue Head sports bag and a smaller collapsable brown bag with many pockets we just bought in Cyprus for this very purpose.
But having read this thread on measurement, although length and height are nowhere near the limits, their width without squeezing are 27 cm and 23 cm. Unless jam full, being soft material they can easily be squashed to 20 cm (particularly the 23cm one) but is this too much of a risk?0 -
Canvas Bags
Anyone?

Re tinned food: I should think that if it were something like corned beef it would be ok but a tin of soup woul be a no no. I guess with vaseline if it gets warm-ish it goes into liquid. Mind you so does corned beef!
One only item I struggle with when taking cabin luggage only is contact lense solution. Ok, you can buy 100ml bottles of it but it's dearer than buying my usual 360ml bottles (which I buy in bulk from CostCo) so it feels wrong buying it! In the past I've decanted my own into small plastic bottles but it's not very sterline that way. Any suggestions?

If you got an eye infection and needed medical treatment your insurance may be invalid because you didn't use sterile solution, looks like a false economy, so the Sterile 100ml ones might be best.Posts are not advice and must not be relied upon.0
