So should I be blaming the death of the celtic tiger for my incurred charge?0 -

The smaller case from Pound stretchers of all places for £9.00 Not very strong and wont hold out much hope for long term use but great for husband.
Is he going to be able to breathe in there?0 -
We flew ryanair a few weeks ago to Alicante from Liverpool. We [in common with lots of others] had only hand baggage. We use two small wheeled suitcases purchased cheaply from Pounstretcher. When we go tot the long snake queue ready to show passports and boarding papers, the ryanair staff directed everyone aside to fit their bag into the size contraption thing. People were taking items out and throwing them away or stuffing their pockets and re trying their bags. The girl in charge had a 'I'm just doing my job' expression and was not intimidating or threatening people. everyone seemed to be able to rearrange their stuff and avoid payment.
I think that this is the start and a warning and next time, I think I may have to give up on my wheeled bag and go for a canvas one over the shoulder to make totally sure that it fits without discussion as theyhot up on their rules. they did not seem to be weighing at that time and our return flight from alicante did not require this check - so random and I think according tohow much time they have to board you.0 -
If you have just hand luggage you do a self check in, so you go straight to passport control and the first time you see Ryanair slaves (no disrespect to the people who work for them) is on boarding the plane. So things like exact sizes and weight do not get checked. I have seen people with much larger cases then allowed as well as several bags board RA, EJ and other budget airlines
Not flown as often this year so have things changed?
Sorry not yet read all the threads, please do not shout at me!!!!0 -
Our bags were checked in the "size gauge" at the boarding gate with BMI Baby this October at Manchester.0

My bag was checked for size at the gate on a Ryanair flight in October. That was Manchester to Alicante.0

I can confirm this. At check in at birmingham last month I was a kilo over on hold baggage, so I transfered some things to hand luggage. They did not weigh cabin bags or check for size at checkin. When the flight was called all hand luggage was checked for size before being allowed to board aircraft. any that would not fit in people were charged for and put into hold. Hope this helps.0

Flew ryanair from stanstead this weekend. they were not checking sizes. I wish they were as some cases must have been 70x40cm seeing them struggle to put them in overhead lockers was amusing, especially the girl taking other peoples luggage out so hers (oversize) would fit.0

Hi guys,
Anyone have any experience with Jet2 and does this make sense below*
It's our first time going with Jet2 so we don't want to be stung by extra charges.
Hand baggage - One item weighing up to 10kg measuring up to 50cmx38cmx26cm. (Does anyone know where to buy a cheap and cheerful cabin case from close to this size?)
Checked baggage - 22kg of hold baggage.
*However, there is a cost for each individual bag per flight. If the combined total weight of all bags is more than 22kg you will incur an excess baggage charge at the airport, in addition to the individual bag charge. No single bag can weight more than 25kg.
Baggage Policy: Purchasing additional bags does not increase your weight allowance of 22kg. It is not possible to use your hand baggage allowance against your checked baggage allowance or vice versa.0
