Hand luggage only discussion

Pity they can't make their minds up whether or not to enforce this rule. SWMBO was told to put her handbag inside her "cabin luggage"...so was another little "prima donna" with enough bling to sink a battleship....she didn't...yet still was allowed to board....as was a slim, pin striped suit wearing business woman, with a hand bag, cabin bag with wheels AND a laptop bag.
Problem I see is how do YOU know what to take....
also....on the same EJ flight I was on, a passenger was allowed to take into the cabin a framed picture....unfortunately the glass in it broke and they cut their hand and take off was delayed while the glass was brushed up and a first aider was called to the plane to apply a bandage....now I could be wrong but a 6" shard of glass would make a great weapon....so what are EJ playing at....did I say that the numpty on the gate had no idea how to organise boarding groups either....I rest my case....lol....didn't realise that would sound like a pun...lolI'm now a retired teacher... hooray ...:j

I read about someone who actually broke the wheels off his cabin bag to make it fit, to avoid having to check it through. Apparently they don't always check the size, but I'm travelling with Ryanair Friday, and I'm not willing to risk it, so I'm off out bag hunting today with my tape measure. So if anyone can recommend somewhere to get a suitably sized small case, I'd be really grateful.0

Thanks for this, unfortunately I have spinal problem and can't lift/carry a bag, so I have to have a trolley-case that meets the requirements - wheels and all!I'm a retired employment solicitor. Hopefully some of my comments might be useful, but they are only my opinion and not intended as legal advice.0

I opted for the Flylites and it has to be said that 10Kg is pretty hard on the shoulder when you're walking any distance between trains or flights and car hire etc.
I was OK but my female partner found it very heavy going.
Are there any solutions to that or alternatively do we have a definitive candidate for the best trolley/wheels solution here?0 -
I have found the perfect ryanair cabin bag!

I was looking at them in Talke Outlet Mall today. The store had a cardboard ryanair/easyjet 'crate' for testing luggage and this one fitted easily, with no pushing or shoving. It is also light as a feather, and pulls along easily.
The price tag is a bit steep (it was £45 at the outlet mall - the same as the online price including delivery) but I reckon it would pay for itself in no time.
They do larger cases too, which are also very light, but to be honest I wouldn't trust them in the hold, they look too flimsy to be thrown around and have hard shell cases with 15 - 20 kg of luggage landing on them
But next time I fly ryanair or easyjet I am defo going to invest in one of these little beauties. Oh, and my halifax electron card arrived to day, so I am all set up for taking advantage of those cheapie flights nowI'm a retired employment solicitor. Hi
My hand luggage case measures 55x 40 x 20cms which is the maximum size for Ryan air hand luggage. BUT the handle, and metal stand on the bottom of the case does not include these dimensions . Does this mean I am over the max size allowance?
At Gatwick the other day my friend and I were charged £16 each by Easyjet to check a bag when asked to check the size in the rack. The attendant said everyone had had their bags checked for size which was a complete lie and plenty of ppl were being allowed to board with much bigger bags and more than one. I don't mind the rule as long as it's applied to everyone. I was incensed. It seems very hit and miss. My bag was perfectly fine on the outward journey from Geneva but suddenly too big going back. There was less in it too! Other airports had no problem with it either and always with easyjet.0 -
My husband and I went to Madrid from Bristol and then on to the Canaries and then back to Madrid, by Easjet last December and took just hand luggage our trip was for 10 days. It was cheaper to fly via Madrid than straight to the Canaries we wanted to se the Sofia art gallery anyway. As it was December we wore our warm clothes on the plane. We used the hotel (hostal like a basic B&B) toiletries in Madrid we just took a deodorant each. I had basic make up as I have back packed quite a lot it was a similar experience. I bought some Rowan T shirts for us, they dry ovenight from dripping handwash, we just had 3 of everything. Basically we wore layers of clothes in Madrid along with a thin waterproof coat to keep out the wind. Clothing for the beach was easier to manage. We took flip flops and thin beach towels and shorts. We bought toiletries in the Canaries. We managed suprizingly well. It was great not to have to queue for the luggage. I would definately do again.0

We just returned from Edinburgh - Bournemouth return trip flying with Ryanair.
Not one person, en route or return was asked to weigh or measure their bags in Ryanair's luggage scale. Both flights were full to bursting and many people had more than one bag or oversized bags!
I must say, both flights left on time.
For anyone travelling in the near future Bournemouth airport is still a complete shambles mess due to the construction going on. The staff are friendly and nice - however, try not to spend any length of time there if you can help it.0 -
Do you think my OH's cases will fit in the overhead bins!!
When a woman is this gorgeous she needs lots and lots of luggage! The common law of business balance prohibits paying a little and getting a lot. If you deal with the lowest bidder, it is well to add something for the risk you run, and if you do that you will have enough to pay for something better.0 -
