They offered me nothing, so I cancelled and went to a different network.

is this the same for O2 CPW retentions?
No. I have a contract with O2 CPW, and they offered me a decent deal through their retentions department which I accepted. O2 were unable to offer anything like it when I called them the same week regarding my wife's O2 contract, which has since been cancelled.
No reliance should be placed on the above.

Options ive found with them, they can only discount like £5 off/pm, they are now giving more mins and texts, they will give you a £150 credit, thats good compared to phones offering for free. My girlfriend will go on ebay and get the phone she wants for £150-180 unlocked and new. So maybe the deals are coming back. I think lets wait for the hype of the iphone to go and im sure we will be all loyal customers again.
    Kind Regards

How long do you think it's worth waiting?
I've gone on to simplicity for now because I don't want to leave O2 but I want a new phone, decisions, decisions!

Thing is when you got on the simplicity, you are now a customer that is not in contract and still not worth keeping, there not stupid.

Can I just say, the lack of retention deals isn't down to the Iphone, it quite daft to think so personally, the Iphone 3G was out nearly a year before they lowered the deals. 99% of people going after retention deals intentionally know that you can't have an iphone discounted so they know that customer base isn't going to be swayed to the Iphone because they can't get a cheap deal. The Iphone Conspiracy seem to get thrown at every decision O2 make at the moment. O2 don't even have to attempt to push the Iphone, it sells itself.

O2 still are doing retention deals, just not the ones people want, maybe we got too used to getting loads for nothing? I doubt o2 have made much money out of me as a customer, I've been with them since 2004 on contract and always had half price line rental retention deals apart from my first contract.
3 offers a free handset on a 18 months contract. What is great of o2 doing it? 3 also throws in free skype, messanger, facebook etc....for just 15 pounds a month. How can you compare o2's 15 pounds a month deal at all???
well if o2 does not offer the deals there are others in the market who offer that is why people do jump boats. that is what a healthy competition is all about.

If its such a good deal then why not take it up? Martin teaches you on this site only to remain loyal while it is good for you then move on. Good luck with 3 though, they have to offer so much for a reason.

I have to disagree with you on the fact that O2 are not pushing the Iphone, it took me an age to get my last upgrade mainly because retentions were pushing the Iphone over the Nokia N-Series phones. This maybe an isolated experience on my part however.

It's in O2's best interest to push the Iphone as it's one of the few high end contracts that has a text limit which can be very lucrative for O2 if you go over your allowance or want to add a bolt on.

The game changes if/when O2 lose the exclusivity to the Iphone 3G, as O2 will have to market a few good reasons to get the 3GS instead of buying the cheaper 3G on another network.

I disagree with you, it is to do with the iphone, costs o2 millions to get the right to keep in on there network and how many iphone adverts have you seen, they are like £50,000 each and even more when its primetime tv. When they offer a deal of £15 per month and a free phone they are on a loss, hoping you will over spend e.g. when you go on holiday, when you text £3 things etc. I wouldnt say the iphone sells it self, do you work for o2 or apple lol.
    Kind Regards
