They offered me nothing, so I cancelled and went to a different network.Small change
I disagree with you on this one, now I should think 1000's are in same boat and transferring away every day. Lets say 1000 customers at £20 per month over 18 months, thats £360,000. Now thats not hard the way they are going.Kind Regards

That's revenue, not profit
The first difference is that if the average retention contract is £20 a month, it includes a phone. Without, it would be about £12.
And there are per call costs apart from overheads, for example calling other mobile networks. If someone pays their £12 and uses all 600 minutes to call other networks without any landlines or O2 mobiles, and never receives any calls, that would cause a loss to O2 of about £20 a month.
It's amazing just how cheap deals have become, and one wonders just how the networks can actually make money, but perhaps the point has been reached where they stop buying revenue at no matter any price and are willing to lose some people who they don't reckon make them any money.
O2 has built itself to the largest network with a mixture of the iPhone and record setting low customer churn achieved with very keen retention deals for some time.
Whether the shutdown of the retention efforts is temporary or long-term, and due to the arrival of new marketing teams with a different outlook, or trying to direct more people towards the iPhone or Simplicity deals, we just don't know yet, but posting petitions isn't going to have much effect.
I haven't studied Quidco and other cashback sites like many people here, but I looked yesterday. Apparently a 12 month Simplicity contract earns £100 cashback, so still works out at around the £12 a month mark without phone, averaging well under 2p a minute. Yes, it's just boring to have to churn to get a good deal, but there are some somewhere0 -
They offered me nothing, so I cancelled and went to a different network.I have been a loyal 02 customer for 16 years or so. My contract was up yesterday. I rang retentions for an upgrade. I only wanted a Samsug Tocco Ultra which is available with Vodafone for £25 a month on an 18 month contract for free. 02 wanted £45 a month for it! I requested my PAC code and they did not even argue. It was texted to me within 2 hours!!! I asked why they were not willing to haggle, they said they are only interested in high-end customers!!!!!0

They offered me nothing, so I cancelled and went to a different network.I want to know how many out of the 7 that said they got a deal which exceeded their expectations got that deal before the retention deals stopped?
I think you should amend the poll to say since June 2009.0 -
They offered me more than I wanted and im pleased. My contract ended last Nov I think, I got an iphone for the same amount that I was paying before, with unlimited data transfer. I was more than happy with that.

They offered me nothing, so I cancelled and went to a different network.I have just left 02 to go to orange. Like a poster above mentioned, I didnt really want to leave 02 as their customer service has always been really good. When I rang cancellations I explained the better deal other networks were offering and I was informed I would need to pay 50 pounds for the phone and another 10 pound per month for the contract to stay with 02. Crazy! So I now have my pac code and have began a new contract with the phone I want free! 02 are loosing loyal customers!0
