T-mobile done the exact same thing over last winter (Approx October till January). They stopped giving low/mid customers upgrades, Only really high value customers got the phones they wanted. With O2 it'll probably come to an end once the iPhone hype is over......And my O2 phone dont come to an end untill March 2010, So I'll hang on till then.
  • I went for a o2 sim only deal.
My son has an iPhone with 7 months left to run on an 18 month contract (which is in his father's name).

I have just come out of a T-mobile Contract and hold a PAC number.

We asked O2 to do this:-

    1. Retain the existing Contract, but port existing number off it onto a NEW Contract in my son's name with the latest iphone.
    2. Port my T-mobile number onto the existing Contract and let it run.

They wouldn't do it. Not unless on paid £400+ to buy out of existing Contract.

We ended up that I have ported my T-mobile number onto an O2 SIM only deal where I only need to give one months' notice.

My son will run with his Contract until it ends. He will take a new Contract with a new iPhone. I will get the old iPhone and use my SIM only deal with it.

I didn't think it was THAT complicated, but they wont do it.

And they would have made more money out of you your way as the 2nd contract would have been another iPhone one rather than a Sim only!! lol

They offered me nothing, so I cancelled and went to a different network.
My O2 contract is due for renewal (I pay £20 p/m at the minute) in a couple of weeks. Have they completely stopped offering good retention deals or is it still worth trying?

Give them a try and report back here, I think soon they will try and stop all these customers leaving, so might be worth holding out for a month.
    Kind Regards
    Bill

I have a mate who works for retensions in O2.... I am on O2 and my contract is due to expire in Nov - currently use an XDA orbit 2 with Windows mobile...

I asked him about any deals on retensions on the iPhone - his response - they are not allowed to do any deals on them at all - not even "one off's" as such!

This clearly sucks.... O2 should *NOT* be allowed to have an exclusive deal like this where it is unfair for the customer. Microsoft got screwed over just over a free browser, so why are O2 getting away with an unfair practice?!

I do hear stories in the news that O2 are about to loose their exclusing deal, IIRC in Oct, I think thats for the 3G and not the 3GS though...

I am a long term contract holder (Around 6 years) with O2, and each year it has become increasingly difficult to get a good deal from them so much so - i expect in Nov, I will be porting my number to somebody else!

Maybe you can update us when they start to give out deals again, if they do.

    Morning everyone...

I have been an o2 customer for past 6 years... My tarrif is te £45 a month..(bill used to be around £55..somehow :))...i rang them up today asking what deals i could get as i got better deals from orange and vodaphone...the women on the fone even though she was nice n friendly..litrally said nothing take what you got or go on simplicity...so i said when are you going to get some deals or when will you be able to discount?..she said end of this month we should have some deals. i said great :)...send me my pac cause i cant wait any longer to buy a new phone :)

I called at the beginning of last week to see what I could get, after giving the "lady" (I use that word very loosely) she very abruptly said to me "youre not going to get a discount like last time!"..... hmm ok I thought but I hadnt even said a word at this stage. I let her carry on with her aggressive babble and when she had finished I enquired about the iPhone realising they wouldnt be allowing any kind of haggling on it to be told, yet again in an agressive manner, "we dont have any left". "ok well thanks for your time" I replied and put the phone down.

Let me tell you one thing O2, I called to get the iPhone, I wasn't enquiring about trying to get it at a knock down price even though I have 2 long standing contracts with you, I simply wanted to "buy" one at your advertised price. Firstly I suggest you teach your employee's how to talk to customers with a bit of common courtesy and to at least wait to hear what they have to say before getting on the aggressive backfoot. I can only presume that from the way I was spoken to that I managed to blag myself a very good deal last upgrade 18 months ago?

Well I have since swapped over to Orange, that experience left such a bitter taste I didnt even bother about keeping my existing number, in fact I've only just emailed you my cancellation notice. One thing I will assure you is that come March when the 2nd contract is up for renewal, it will also be getting cancelled. I am usually a very loyal customer, until pushed!

This is my first post, please be kind ... I've been on O2 Simplicity £20 a month for about 13 months. Have been calling 202 customer services about 4 times over the last month. Called today and was offered the following for £25 inc VAT per month:

    Blackberry Bold Refurbished
    18 month contract
    400 mins 1000 txts
Unlimited O2 to O2 Bolt On
    Umlimited Blackberry Internet Service

I thought it was not bad at all!

I'd go for a new Bold considering you are locking yourself in for 18 months.
