Talk-Talk What I Know So Far....

TT have restricted ou phone as weve exceeded our call limit (due to phoning their bloody customer service desk at 8pppm etc), we are now waiting to be disconnected from broadband. Im not going to cancel if its going to cost me £70. I will wait til they disconnect me. I dont want to talk to them anymore, and am looking into paying for another BT line to be put in. Thats how bad they are.0

blueorigin wrote:If you read Charles Dunstone's Blog (yeah right, he really writes this stuff...) he would have you believe that Tech support is now only 10p per minute, which apparently now has some self-service aspects for the simple things but then there is a one-off £2 charge if you actually wish to talk to someone (see http://www.talktalk.co.uk/talktalk/servlet/gben-LLU-PageServer?article=MAIN.UK.TALKTALK.STATIC.BLOG.HOME ).
I can find a reference to the 10p/minute elsewhere on the site but not the one-off £2 (naturally...).
I'm an ex-TalkTalk Broadband user and my experience of Technical Support has been mixed. I got excellent support (at 50p/minute) for a technical problem I had but had a nightmare getting my MAC. I basically got fed up with the traffic shaping under normal use so I moved to F2S, which also now has traffic shaping and went through a very difficult period after the Pipex takeover. Luckily I have not had to contact Technical Support there yet...!!
Anyone thinking of joining TalkTalk on this offer should proceed with caution for a lot of the reasons stated previously on this thread but not least because once committed it will be both difficult and expensive to get away again. Especially since an LLU'd line (once available, June at the earliest I believe) currently requires a cease and reprovide of the broadband service where you will potentially incur extra costs and/or get tied into a long contract taking up a service with another ISP.
Oh and BTW anyone who thinks that the broadband is really 'free' needs to do some sums. TalkTalk are charging full whack for the line rental (they used to charge £9.99) and it is doubtful any average user will spend £9.99 on calls, international or otherwise!! I still have TalkTalk Landline on the free tariff and I struggle to spend more than £2-£3 a month.
I'd be inclined to wait until the dust settles and see how the rest of the market reacts to this offer. I would also be interested to read the experiences of the people who have taken the plunge (very brave).
That's my 2p worth. Good luck.
I took the plunge. And I am currently drownng in a sea of premium-rate numbers they dont tell you about, TERRIBLE customer service, broadband that keeps disconnecting, a restriction on my phone line, and all this after a 4-month wait to get connected. It has driven me to the point of obsession. I go on here every day to read about TT. I have emailed Ofcom,Ofel, Consumer Direct, BBC and The Sun. Everyone I see I say to avoid TT. I too have been driven to tears by them. Don't pay their bills and get disconnected, that;'s what I am going to do.0 -
stevennoel wrote:Just tried joining talk talk to get full package inc broadband, calculated my combined wanadoo and bt bill would be halved. Problem is they want to charge an extra £10 for broadband due to the exchange being run by bt. I thought all exchanges were owned and run by bt. Is this unlucky for me or is my suspicious mind detecting an advanced marketing scheme. Even the extra £10 is cheap for their broadband package and would save me £s anyway. Has any one else had the same problem ?
DONT DO IT!! Its not just £10 a month..its your soul they are after.0 -

I know exactly how you feel, had to laugh because I've been doing the same as you, it really does become an obsession and I've also have been driven to tears by them. I'm much happpier today though, I've just got my Primus Broadband and easily connected with my router, I am so glad to be away from TT.0 -
Hi all,
Ive posted this on another forum but because I need a definite answer rather urgently im also posting it here :
Hi all,
A friend of mine has recently got talktalk broadband and phone line. I have since set him up on wireless, which was a nightmare and now trying to sort out his "ipsec vpn" connection to log on to the server in his works office.
No joy at all on the vpn and im now reading many angry posts on the internet about vpn problems and talk talk in general, so my friend decided to phone talk talk and get a definite answer :
Call no:1 - No Sir we do not block vpn's
I tried again but still cannot get his vpn to work.
Call no:2 - A dpm ? What is that........No I said vpn, well we dont block anything sir (yeah rite, tell that to the online gamers and p2p downloaders).
Call no:3 - Can I speak to your supervisior - No but i can speak to him for you - Do you block vpn's - he went away and "supposedly talked to his supervisor" - yes sir we block ALL vpn connections - are you sure ? - yes positive.
Told my mate - mate went nuts.
Mate phones talk talk - My vpn does not work since switching to you, does that mean you block vpn connections ? - no sir we do not block anything at all (even though he did not know what a vpn was)
This has gone on for a few days and we cannot get a straight answer, so does anyone on these forums know the real truth about talktalk and vpn connections ?
Cheers0 -

Hmm, after reading this thread today I'm starting to worry!
We signed up for TalkTalk International option just over a week ago, have had the phone connected and now waiting for the bband which they 'say' is due to be connected later this month....
im scared!
That aside, i'll post here once we're fully connected and let you know how it went"The reasonable man adapts to the world,
The unreasonable man adapts the world to himself,
Therefore, all progress depends on the unreasonable man."0 -

Like some of the people in the thread you linked, I changed over (from BT) mainly for the TT phone benefits.. my phone bill savings will be substantial
In the mean time Ive still got BT's bband and my TT bband is due to go live end of October.... any bets on TT cocking it up?"The reasonable man adapts to the world,
The unreasonable man adapts the world to himself,
Therefore, all progress depends on the unreasonable man."0 -
Amazes me how people think TalkTalk's phone service will offer substantial savings, for most people it works out more expensive than what they could get by looking around at what's available.
Though I'm sure you find paying for caller display when it is free from BT is a benefit, as is paying a high monthly charge for inclusive calls that you probably wouldn't spend that much if you used Primus 2 for the free evening weekend calls and 1899 for the daytime calls and 18185 for international calls.
There broadband is so poor, even as they pretend to give it away free, no one in their right mind would switch to it knowing how poor it is, I made the mistake of switching to TalkTalk for broadband, when they first started out, they were bad then, they are worse now, even if they paid my £100 per week to take their broadband, I'd turn it down, I want a broadband service that actually works, one where I can view webpages get email and download.
TalkTalk's phone service wasn't too bad when they were just CPS, but it rapidly went totally pathetic once they started to try and con people into having their line rental too. Big mistake for anyone who moves line rental to TalkTalk, along with their poor packages.
At best you will save pennies with TalkTalk, mostly you'll end up paying much more than before. Broadband can be taken out of the equation as it isn't even worth having for 'free'.It's PAC not PAC Code, it's MAC not MAC Code, it's PIN not PIN Number, it's ATM not ATM Machine, it's LCD not LCD Display, it's DVD not DVD disc... It's no one not noone, It's a lot not alot, It's got not gotten... Panini is the plural of panino - there is no S!!(OK my English isn't great, the sciences, maths & IT are my strong points!)0
