Talk-Talk What I Know So Far....

  • JPW they don't have a clue what they are doing at TT.

I canceled my telephone contract with them after 3 months trial, it was just before the 'free' broadband offer came out. I had also signed up with them for broadband at 14.99 a month. I didn't realize that when I canceled my telephone I was also canceling my broadband, not that I'm worried because I want to leave them. It's just that when I rang they said I had to stay with them for Broadband for 12 months.

Anyway I've been disconnected from TT Broadband since last week, when I rang them they told me I should have asked for the MAC code when I canceled, as I didn't actually cancel BB I didn't ask for it so now I have to wait for the code, they said it could take 7 days but I'm not holding my breath.

I think I may be without BB for a long time!

After several more phone calls, I have now been told that I could be reconnected to TT Broadband. I declined and was told that I would have to pay £70.00 penalty as my 12 months won't be up until next year. To be honest I don't really care I just want to get as far away from TT as possible. They've also increased my BB charges to 26.99 month including VAT because I am no longer a TT customer (for 1 mbps).

I have never ever been so stressed out by a company, the length of time getting through to them is ridiculous and then speaking to customer services who don't understand me and I don't understand them is so maddening!

All I have to do now is get this MAC code from them, wish me luck.

It maybe too late to request a MAC, also as they disconnected you without you requesting the broadband to be cancelled they shouldn't charge you the £70, I'd make sure you cancel your direct debits with them, and continue you fight them, don't let them charge you the £70, don't let them reconnect you that is their fault they disconnected you, they can swivel.

I hate the company, they are just complete muppets, they were once a pretty good landline service, they have ruined that and have never managed from day one to have a decent broadband service.
It's PAC not PAC Code, it's MAC not MAC Code, it's PIN not PIN Number, it's ATM not ATM Machine, it's LCD not LCD Display, it's DVD not DVD disc... It's no one not noone, It's a lot not alot, It's got not gotten... Panini is the plural of panino - there is no S!!

The trouble is although I didn't request Broadband to be canceled , they have offered to re-connect me, but that would be tying myself up with them for the next 7 months. At the price they are charging me now I should be able to save myself money even paying the £70.00 charge or at least not be too much out of pocket.

I hate them too  I was actually reduced to tears of frustration because of them last week after numerous phone calls and being told different things each time.

Apparently my MAC code request is on their system and I should hear from them next week  Am I right in thinking I can move to another ISP without the code but it will take longer?

You can move to another provider, this will be cease and reprovide, trouble is you are at the mercy of TalkTalk putting a request in to release their service from the line, and can be known to take up to several months to get the markers taken off your line and then setup a new provider, also you may have to pay setup fees to a new provider as you are starting afresh, often there are no fee when migrating.

At least when migrating with a MAC you should be switched within 10 days at most, and you are only without internet connection for a couple of minutes.

Rang TT yet again this morning, (best time to get through by the way) and this time I've been told I don't need a MAC code and that I am free to go with any provider as my line is clear and I have no BB service. Does this sound right, do you think I'm really free of them????

There is the possibility either way, you just don't know with TalkTalk.

Update......later this morning I contacted Primus and they don't seem to think there will be a problem so I'm signing up to them for my broadband, obviously as I don't have a MAC code I'm not expecting things to move too quickly but just glad to be able to get through to customer services within a minute and speak to someone who understands what's going on. So far I've been very impressed with Primus....watch this space!

I had to laugh ... sat down with flask in hand to spend the afternoon chasing up TT once again ... been waiting since April for the £20 package to go live ... apparently I have "an inconvenience on my account"!

First try using the freephone number it rang ... then pressing 1 for landline it rang again and someone answered!

The gentleman apologised for the long hold on the line. My tea was still scalding!

Not really any nearer or wiser, but I now have the afternoon to myself.

You were very luck then flower, I've hardly ever got through to them before 15 minutes or so. I had to laugh at your post, I generally resign myself to an afternoon of phone calls to get through to them and arm myself with a cuppa. I usually take the phone in the sitting room and watch a bit of telly at the same time because I know its going to be a long wait.
