JPW wrote:My connection to the Talk 3 with broadband package has unfortunately been riddled with problems and poor customer service. I was already a Talk Talk (2) customer and upgraded for the Talk 3/ Broadband package; as with most people this was for the lure of the free broadband. I applied in April, it is now August and still no broadband. They have not contacted me once to explain what's going on, I have had to contact them 4/ 5 times to chase up.
I take some responsibility for not reading all details fully but what this has meant in practice is that I have been continuing to pay my old broadband company monthly whilst waiting, and also had my payments to Talk Talk increased by £8.50 per month (for international calls which I don't make!), so instead of saving money it has cost me more. And poor customer service to boot.
I called Talk Talk again today and they explained that the broadband and phone contract are separate - I could cancel the broadband order but would still be tied into the phone contract for 18 months (unless I pay £70 fee), even though for 5 months they have not supplied Broadband which was my whole reason for upgrading! I think it's appalling that their marketing campaign has targetted the free broadband and yet this isn't even part of the same contract.
Anyway, if you are thinking of moving to Talk Talk, just be aware that your contract is for the phone package, not for the broadband, and make sure you keep on top of them with regards to getting broadband to go live, they're not very forward in contacting you about problems.
JPW they don't have a clue what they are doing at TT.
I canceled my telephone contract with them after 3 months trial, it was just before the 'free' broadband offer came out. I had also signed up with them for broadband at 14.99 a month. I didn't realise that when I canceled my telephone I was also canceling my broadband, not that I'm worried because I want to leave them. It's just that when I rang they said I had to stay with them for Broadband for 12 months.
Anyway I've been disconnected from TT Broadband since last week, when I rang them they told me I should have asked for the MAC code when I canceled, as I didn't actually cancel BB I didn't ask for it so now I have to wait for the code, they said it could take 7 days but I'm not holding my breath.
I think I may be without BB for a long time!0 -
How lond do talktalk take to activate broadband via a mac code?
They said ten working days and that was about 3 weeks ago?0 -
Well the Mac code was another issue; they didn't bother to tell me that they needed it, I phoned them in July (April the order was made) and they told me to get a MAC code, which I did, when I called back yesterday (4 weeks later) they told me that the MAC code had been invalid. Of course, hadn't thought of calling me at any stage to tell me there were problems.
So my advice if there is an unexpected delay is call them, it's unlikely they'll call you and let you know, they'll just keep you waiting.0 -
I almost didn't post anything on this forum, but then realised this could be the reason that most of the posts seems to be quite negative - those who haven't had a problem don't bother to post.
Anyway - so far 3 of us have transferred over to talktalk and everything has gone fine. 1 of us had no phone line for 24 hours because BT had left wires out at the exchange (seeing as BT came to fix it, it seems hard to blame talktalk) and talktalk give you a freephone number for any genuine line faults.
I may regret saying this, but so far so good and I would recommend them.0 -
Well an update to my MAC code situation, i recieved a telephone call this evening from talktalk asking why i never submitted my MAC, i did do this, and informed him so, he apolgised, and said it was a failure there end and issued me with a £10 credit on my account.
He asked me to ring Customer Service with the code, as i wasn't home at the time.
Only problem is the MAC code i have was issued on the 11th of July, so this is coming to an end, so he said it should be fine providing i submit it ASAP.
I couldn't get through to customer service, so i emailed broadband suypport, and customer service, if i don't here anything tomorrow I'll email Charles Dunstone.
At least talktalk are taking the responsability for mistakes it seems.0 -
I'm afraid I rue the day I ever transferred to Talk Talk. I did so in March and, despite having made all payments, have been disconnected twice without any attempt to contact or inform me, am being pursued by debt collectors who allege I owe £80+ to Carphone Warehouse ( Talk Talk ) and have had a further £60 in total taken under a Direct Debit arrangement which was in respect of my previous provider, Onetel, which was taken over by Talk Talk at just the time I transferred. I have written several letters without response and in desperation sent copies by recorded delivery 10days ago and have heard nothing. However, I know they have received my original letter notifying them that I was terminating my contract with them beacause I received a computer generated letter stating they 'were sorry I was leaving 'and that ' they would really like to know why ' !! My phone line has been disconnected since 12th July and it is with great relief I am now back with BT. I am able to argue my case and, fortunately had another BT line in the house but am appalled at the implications of their practices for elderly and disabled people or others who are dependent on their telephone line. I would be very interested to hear the experiences of others Susan0

Have you tried emailing or writing directly to Charles Dunstone?

TalkTalk really are a joke, they could supply me with a decent broadband connection, it would drop 15 - 20+ times an hour, downloads would crawl at 0.5k/s, email was ropey, newsgroups have been down for a year as they can't be bothered to get that up and running again.
Strange how TalkTalk have all these problems yet my previous provider there was never an issue, nor was there when I managed to escape the charlatans and go back to a decent provider.
TalkTalk phone service used to be good when it was a CPS service, now they want to take over your phone line too and charge you more for calling mobiles and non-geographic numbers, and you are prevented for using cheap call providers, also they charge you for caller display, they have become one big joke.
Luckily I was wise enough to cancel my DD when I left their service, as they still tried to bill me for several months afterwards, sending threatening letters too about debt collection agencies, and also flagging on the two main credit reference agency lists non-payment.
TalkTalk really should be avoided. It's PAC not PAC Code, it's MAC not MAC Code, it's PIN not PIN Number, it's ATM not ATM Machine, it's LCD not LCD Display, it's DVD not DVD disc... It's no one not noone, It's a lot not alot, It's got not gotten... Panini is the plural of panino - there is no S!!(OK my English isn't great, the sciences, maths & IT are my strong points!)0 -
Hmm I've had no problem at all with the landline service, and i got credit for the broadband cockup.
Its weird some people have no problems at all, others have loads.
Incidently my current broadband (Nildram) keeps dropping the connection since the ADSL Max upgrade. So far this morning the connection has dropped 10 times.
So its not just talktalk with the issues.0
