TalkTalk Broadband (The Bad!!) (merged threads)

What is it with large companies that are so quick to promote themselves as the greatest new thing on the block without the customer service backup? They should be ashamed of themselves. If you are having problems getting online and installing the new software - you've not a hope in hell of getting any help even with the 10p a minute helpline which annoyingly takes several minutes to tell you that there is no adviser available before cutting you off. Believe me I've tried many many times. Time to cancel the 'service' methinks. Anybody recommend a safer ISP?

Just take a look at the comparison guide on ADSLGuide.org.uk

People get caught up with the 'FREE BROADBAND', with broadband its always been a case of pay more = better service
  • I'm not sure that there is a positive correlation between price and service. BT are pretty expensive and their service is (in my experience) abysmal.

I think Martin Lewis makes the point that because service across these companies is pretty unreliable that price is often the over-riding factor in decicion making.

But thanks for the link; I will cerrtainly check it out.

Yes BT are ridiculously expensive but I'm afraid I can't agree with you regarding their service. In my view their support service goes far, far beyond the mere abysmal, no I reckon absymal would be a compliment!

Until a week ago I'd been a BTYahoo broadband customer for 3 years and it may be because I use a Mac and on a Mac it's pretty easy to set up broadband - and that's lucky but if things go wrong BT's Mac-support is virtually non-existant. But give 'em their due - the connection has usually been rock-steady although for 6 months I was paying 28 quid a month for 2mb speeds but only getting a quarter of that until I was finally upgraded.

I dunno about that ADSL Guide Provider Customer Service Comparison. Maybe Talk Talk get hammering due to their frustrating telephone queing system that allows you just that little bit further in each time before cheerfully announcing "I'm sorry all our operators are busy please call back later!" then cuts you off. What a tease!

Ofcom not Oftel will still have powers and will continue to monitor/police Telecom Companies and the Media. All they have done is lifted BT Price Controls. As a result of this BT will start reducing prices from 1/8/2006.
