I have been reading the messy (in my view) information provided in the Talk talk website and the small print too. You are tied up to them for 18 months if you sign up for tel line and free BB. You are also "advised" to buy their special modem at £29.99 (why on earth don't they write 30?) so HOTBOD, THAT might be what you have been charged... Again, it is not clear you have to pay for it UNTIL you read the small print, because it goes under "pluses"... I am very weary of making changes, although I am paying over the odds for my OneTel connection and God knows their Customer Service is as bad as any. I am happy I have read this thread, I think I'll give TT a miss....0

I have been with them and I truly think they are the most incompetent organisation on the planet, yes I think that actually ranks the UK government and the US military higher than them!!!
3 month, 3 x phone cutoffs, too many bills all too confused to mention. Too many letters all ignored.Too many long and unresolved phone calls. Too much hassle...
DONT EVER GO TO THEM THEY ARE APPALLING!!! YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED!0 -
I have a friend that was experiencing problems with the TalkTalk BB service and he had great success by visiting a local carphone warehouse store. He demanded that the issue was resolved there and then in front of other potential customers - hence the staff were keen to get the problem sorted as they would loose other customers. My advice would be to follow his example - get down to a store, demand action and do it in front of others. Don't be fooled by 12 months contracts - they have to actually provide a service in this period or you have a right to cancel! Big enough to get our money to Big to care!0

Are calling all 0870 numbers free from Talk Talk?
AFAIK only the 0870 numbers to Talk Talk customer "service" are free from a Talk Talk line.0 -
I signed up for TT mid April and went live mid June. Only problem was that their set up disc didnt work properly and had to do setup manually with help from their helpline. BB worked for three days then went fault. Rang BB Helpline and got charged £2.66 for the privledge of someone to ring me back three days later, however he confirmed a fault on the BB part of the phone line and after another 5 days, I got my connection back - it had been a fault with a board at the BT exchange. Rang TT about the £2.66 charge and they have actually refunded it as it wasnt my fault. Everything has been fine since and I can now surf the web any time of the day or night at no additional cost - very happy.
Just one point though - remember to disable the TT help icon before trying to open certain games programs such as solitaire otherwise you get a kernel type error which look pretty serious but is just the TT help site getting in the way of other things.

How can I stop Talktalk seting up a new direct debit on my account? Have moaned to Nat West, companies should not be able to hold onto your bank details and set up unlimited direct debits, just the one, they cannot hold onto your credit/debit card details after a transaction. I need to stop Talktalk setting up further direct debits and taking money for services I have not had! Cheers all keep up the good work!0 -
P.S forgot to say you will be lucky to get money back from talktalk, get out before you loose anymore! Regards.0

I was already on 8Mb service from Bulldog (translate - around 3Mb) and changed to TalkTalk which included 'free' 8Mb broadband. Cancelled Bulldog to coincide with TalkTalk starting and now have TalkTalk broadband - at 1Mb - actually around 400K. TalkTalk tell me that they haven't upgraded their bit of the exchange, but not to worry - it will be done in May 2007. So that's all right then........0
