My friend signed up yesterday - new to broadband ( would have never bothered - but at this price...) ... says will go live in June ( speed update in Oct)

The ASA have ruled that Talk Talks Phone Ads are misleading.

BT has struck a blow against fierce rival Carphone Warehouse after the advertising watchdog ruled that an ad plugging its TalkTalk phone service was misleading.

    See this article:
    http://www.theregister.co.uk/2006/04/26/carphone_asa/

That still leaves the Free? Broadband ads to be resolved.

"Today's ruling will come as a blow to Carphone which is using a similar approach to flog its new "free broadband forever" service. Following more than 40 complaints from members of the public, and just two from industry rivals (BT and Tiscali), these ads are now also under ASA investigation."

Well, it is said that 70% of people will qualify for the offer, so perhaps we are unlucky.

If so it appears to imply that CPW are planning to unbundle exchanges and install their own gear rather faster than any other company has ever done. Unless I've got the wrong idea.

Targeting 1,000 exchanges serving around 70 per cent of the UK population, it means a sizeable minority of people in the UK will not be able to subscribe to it for free, approx 40% will not be able to get it.

The one thing that we must remember here is that you can’t buy a Rolls Royce for mondeo money, so as far as this offer goes you get what you pay for
So don’t expect first class service for second class money

It also states that the offer will only be available to 70% of the population, and exchanges that remain in the control of BT will not qualify for the offer
What the don’t say is that they are not interested in the other 30% of the population because it is not cost effective to un bundle rural exchanges, I see this as a classic example of cherry picking and they will be allowed to get away with it by the regulator
  • Talk Talk is full of crap when signing you up they will tell you anything to get you hooked. I signed up to their landline a few months ago and it was weeks before I got it sorted so i got what i had signed up for. They lie and mislead and when you get billed they are often wrong and over charge. Trying to sort out billing problems can be a nightmare I didnt evnget billed for the option i signed up to. If you speak to a Talk Talk representative I advise you record your conversation if you can. Maybe it might pay to tell them you are recording the conversation so that they may be more likely to tell you the truth and not bull!!!! you. This new 'Free for life BB offer' does not cover my area so the guy offered me the £30.99 deal until TT include my area. I told him I would mean me having to sign up for 18 months, also I could be paying the £10 and TT may never cover my area leaving me to pay this £10 forever. He then told me I would not be contracted fo 18 months and when TT reached my area i would be switched to it automatically. I found out since I would definatly be tied up for 18 months, which demonstrates what lies they come out with. I dont trust them one bit. I am with BT for Broadband and think I will stick with them for now until I see another provider offering a good package but definately not T.T. Anyone going to TT do so at their own risk, they cant say they have not been warned.

Quidco site now down to £22.50 ( don't think you get this on top of the £10 landline c/b)

Think they were slow in updating, as previously showed up as £40 , way after I was told by affiliate company it had been reduced
