I had a go at planting some garlic cloves that i put in the fridge for a while so they had a cold snap.planted them in feb so they've had a few frosts, followed the advice i read on here somewhere that someone puts them out all year round for a year round supply. anyhow they are really shotting up and i was a bit curious to see how big the bulbs were so had a gentle poke about...NO BULBS!!!! just cloves with theses shoots! is this normal or should they have developed into bulbs by now?0

Well thats my rdishes and calabrese starting to sprout. Managed to get some buckets in Wicks for 95p yesterday just black ones but will do fo the veggies and at that price am not complaining!!!
Garlic and tatties are all planted but dont know if it is just me and my impatience or do they take a while to have decents foliage for me to add more compost (tatties that is!).
Hping to get some pea and caulie seedlings this weekend when the cold frame is sorted.
Is it just me or do you get excited about the thought of being able to go pick dinner from the garden???Although I get lonely  as a single mother there are always two smiling angels ready to give me the biggest hug in the world. Love you babies :grouphug:

I was just reading in a book about planting more than one thing in each pot i.e. Courgette with lettuce around to save space. Im going to be severely short of space and looking for any tips you guys have of what can be planted together.Although I get lonely  as a single mother there are always two smiling angels ready to give me the biggest hug in the world. I've just taken delivery of some seed potatoes from Thompson & Morgan, they're really quite firm and no sign of sprouting (unlike some i bought from No Frills which were already sprouting). Isn't it too late to do anything with these?:T:jDabbler in all things moneysaving.Master of none:o

'The Edible Container Garden' by Michael Guerra (with a forward by Carol Klein the TV veg growing person) published by Gaia Books at 11.99 but you can get it cheaper from Amazon. Nice book, quite inspiring.0 -
Just been reading about growing tomatoes upside down; a bit like hanging baskets but through a hole in bottom of a bucket or other container, hung up. It seems to be quite popular in the US and anyone interested should put 'upside down tomatoes' into Google and there is lots of info, even a few demos on You Tube. The plants don't have to be any special variety. Any will do.
Looks like a good idea to me so I shall have a go later on.0
