i have got books from library, looked on other websites for tips . and just go for it .

Have you got any books you'd recommend that concentrate on growing veggies in pots?

I'd be interested in book recommendations too - have googled around but nothing seems to really jump out.

    Hello All

For the first time i have decided to grow Broccoli and Sprouts. I bought the seeds and planted about 3 weeks ago. Because of the sunny weather they grew within a week. I have placed them in my south facing poarch so they get loads of sun. I water about every other day. About 20 of each of the seeds grew to approx an 1-2 inches but over the last week they have started to die. They are in a seed tray and was thinking of moving them into bigger pots so they could continue their growth before being placed outside. But they started to die before i got round to it. What am i doing wrong and what is causing them to die?

Also I planted strawberry plants about 6 weeks ago and they haven't grown at all. Any ideas?

    Thanks
    :p

Hi folks, I,ve started my second spuds today, as the first are sprouting away happily. I use the pop-up type garden waste bags to grow them in. I,ve also planted some leek seeds in long planters and put them into big clear plastic bags, all trial and error at the moment. I have three rows of cabbages in my raised beds which I germinated on a sunny window sill, some are under halved litre juice bottles some are in toilet roll tubes and some are left to thier own devices, we,ll see what happens next. My strawberry plants, left from last year, in their tubs on the fence because I was lazy, seem to be growing away again, I will put a fleece over them though just incase. Next thing to do is plant my carrot seeds in their pots, I will try to leave them a bit longer this year, I was very impatient last year, and I,m keeping a diary of when I plant things. I always think I,ll remember but I dont. Can any of the experts amongst you make a list of what will germinate in the dark and vice-versa, this would be a great help. Thanks

Wow, just been reading through some of the green fingered threads and can't wait to get into growing my own :j

I haven't grown anything before so decided to start with a couple of kits, I bought these:

    Pepper kit

    Herb kit

I've followed the instructions, the herbs are looking good and I can see some of the peppers starting to shoot :T

Now I just have a couple of questiosn which may be a bit silly...

The seedlings are in little 'pots' which are compost in a kind of mesh, when I pot them up, do I leave the mesh on and put the whole thing in, or do I need to take the mesh off?

Also, when they are bigger, I'm planning to put them into some bigger plant tubs, how many plants can I put in each tub?

I was thinking of putting all of the herbs into a trough, and then one tub per variety of peppers, there will be four plants of each variety, will this be too much for one tub?
    Your help is much appreciated!

    TIA

Hi luce, I,d just tear the mesh at the bottom a bit, if it gives easily, I,d leave it on. Cant really say since I dont know what kind of mesh but the less disturbance the better I feel.
