right, anyone who has cancelled but still in there 30 days who wants to stay on orange... call orange retentions... they were VERY happy to negotiate with me earlier today!
I think the way it works is the accounts team effectively buy us out of our contracts... and then we are registered as if we are eligible for upgrade/renewal
I have "upgraded" on a great new deal
so it worked like this for me.
1. ring 150 and cancel
2. wait a couple of days and ring 150, speal to upgrades...
3. haggle like crazy
What was your great new deal?0 -
mmmm new member, i wonder if they connected to Orange in anyway????0

i doubt he works for orange lol
everything he stated is trueand just warning people about potential problems, he could have used paragraphs thoThere is a Money Saving Expert quidclan, next time your on quidco have a look for it0 -
Just for clarification in case there is still any doubts:
After extensive research into ts and cs and conversing with staff when querying it: -
Clause in the contract allows the d/c Free of charge, however it is important for customer's to recieve the text message before doing so, systems are placed to check this and only d/c when this is so.
The texts are staggered over a 30day period which is to control the call flow into call centres and make life easier for the poor sods taking the calls, however Orange are not breaching any legal requirements as all customer's effected are going to be given the information in due time before the changes come into effect (14th Sept).
I mean come on, it's a bit unrealistic for a company with millions of customer's to tell everyone in a day, and handle every call at the same time, but think people are taking advantage of a loophole to get out of contracts when they dont care about the charge increase i think being asked to wait for a text message is hardly unfair.
Some advisors, as within any company will just lie outright, and as has already been posted into this thread, if such people you experience, just try again, the majority of people are sound. Couple of things that may not have been mentioned, if you have been with Orange a while, any loyalty/retentions offers you may have been building will be wiped when you d/c and if you are only a few month away from the end of your contract it can be more detremental doing this than just waiting.
Also Orange offer what is now a good Broadband product, now as far as I understand, if you have a mobile and broadband package where the broadband is discounted and you d/c the mobile the broadband price will increase and since the broadband is bound by a seperate set of ts and cs you will be liable for those charges, so it is quite important you consider the entire implications of just wanting out because you want a new phone.
I think most of this has been covered anyways, but if it helps, cool.
I deleted by mistake when changing to add paragraphs, i was never very good with them but does it help?0 -
Thought I'd post again to address a few of the queries raised, and the responses I got to them when I called. My post last Sunday confirmed that I had been able to cancel my contract with absolutely no problem whatsoever. I got through to a really helpful chap who seemed really p****d off with Orange and was more than happy to cancel my contract for me.
So far as mentioning the infamous text from Orange was concerned, I did not mention this. He asked, almost as an afterthought, if I'd had the text and I said yeah I had - no questions about when or where from.
I then asked for my PAC code and this duly arrived in the post on Thursday morning. The only concern I now have is whether I will get a huge bill next to cover the remaining 11 months of my contract, but the CS rep said I wouldn't - watch this space!!
Finally, as for what I do now. After many an hour looking at my options, I have decided to visit my local market tomorrow morning and get my LG Renoir unlocked for a tenner, then nip into Tesco and get one of their PAYG Sims (currently £5 for a £10 card). Each time you top up £15 or more, they treble your credit and if you set this up on a regular basis, you also get 10% off! Not only this, you also stack up your clubcard points too! Have been put off PAYG for many years because of worrying about running out of credit, and also not qualifying for a nice new phone. However, mine is only 7 months old and really doesn't need replacing, and Tesco offer a service where they will automatically top up your credit if you fall to a level you have pre-set - setting this up also apparently qualifies you for the 10% off. Seems perfect but I'm not that naive to think it will be - again, watch this space!! Having said that, I know several people doing that and they say its brilliant.
Sorry guys - I seem to have written a novel again!!:rotfl:0 -
So are people actually upgrading once cancelling their contract?
I'm suprised they're letting you. :rotfl:0 -
ones a touch hd other a tocco just trying to work out if its better to sell these and opt for new contracts or go pay as you go.
i also recieved the txt about 4 hours after i cancelled, i guess they cud see on there system i would get the text message today... =-/ lol0 -
woudnt you be happier with a cheaper contracts... more for your money?
hope you dont call your answer phone either as the price has gone up...I'm not, I am happy with my contract, as is my fella, (who is actually the name on both contracts), we get what we need, we never go over minutes, we don't phone 08 numbers, so we are both staying.0 -
Everyone is leaving because its an easy way out.. you can get a sim free option with o2/vodafone for alot less...
Quidco have a deal on at the moment, where if you buy a 12 month contract sim free, you get 100£ back... thich works out at 11.60 a month, an heck i can find 11.60 on the floor...
o2 offer is 800 minutes 1600 texts, and a free bolt on.. many to choose from, it also included free BIS ( blackberry internet services) which is usually around 5-12£ extra a month.
Vodafone 15£ will get you 600 minutes unlimited texts.. plus if you call or go in store your get an even better deal.....Am I missing something? Why is everyone leaving Orange?
For appx £35 per month I get 1200 cross network minutes, unlimited landline calls, unlimited calls to my 4 magic numbers that I use an awful lot, 500 text messages and free broadband, well almost free, I pay an extra £5/month and can call over a 100 countries land lines free, which again I use a lot.
Is this a good deal, can I get a better deal on another network, would love to save some money and get a new handset if poss, although last time I upgraded was December 08 and I got an HTC Touch HD which I flogged on ebay for over £350.
Am I missing something or is everyone off to get Iphones?
Thanks in anticipation.
