Well I have to say I think I had the best experience out of everyone! I phoned up and asked if the charges applied to me as I only got my new contract last month, he said they did and would I like to cancel the contract. He was very friendly and said it was no bother and that it would be cancelled by midnight tonight. He even went as far to check if I'd lose the 'Comes With Music' package, which I wasn't too fussed about, but the guy was really, really nice about it all. He didn't even ask if I'd received the text and told me the phone was mine to do whatever I wanted with it.

Couple hours later and I've signed up for a better contract! The one I cancelled was 200 minutes, 300 texts for £20 a month. The new one I have is 100 minutes, unlimited texts for £15! Since I do a lot of texting I have to say I'm incredibly happy. I get to keep the phone I have (a Nokia 5800 which I love) and I'm getting a new phone too.

    Today's a good day.

I've been with orange for about 5 years now fed up not being able to receive a signal when i go downstairs in at home!! i was on a 18 month contract 600 min unlimited texts for £20 a month.I'm off to a sim only 30 day contract bye orange!!:beer:
  • I am not the cleverest of people and I sometimes find all the jargon on here goes way over my head.
I have read about the ability to terminate your Orange mobile contract early and need a few points clearing up:
1,I am about 9 months into an 18 month contract or maybe it was a 24 month contract,I am not sure.Anyway I owe them for a few months line rental but will I still be able to cancel my contract early?
2,How do I go about cancelling?.What do I tell them?
3,I have not recieved a text from them on my contract number but have on my pay as you go with regards to price changes, does that mean I cannot cancel as I have not recieved the text message?
Please put it in laymans terms for me.

Hi i just wondered if somebody could clarify this for me please.

I have just taken out a new contract with Orange through buymobilephones and i got the Samsung i8910 with them i f i wanted to cancel would i phone up Orange or would it be through buymobilephones.net.

Also would buymobilephones.net. want the phone backor not before this contract i was with Orange for 5 years but they would not give me the above phone so i cancelled with them and took this new contract out.I do phone up the voicemail a lot and also use the internet now and again.

    14. Early Termination of Air Time Contracts / Changing of Tariffs

14.1. Our offers with monthly contract phones and packages are totally dependant on the tariff selected therefore:-
14.1.1. In the event that you are disconnected from your network for any reason within the period of 120 days from your initial billing date, we will invoice you the minimum sum of 200 plus VAT per handset. The charge will be dependant on the tariff selected at the time of disconnection.
14.1.2. Disconnections arising during the initial 7 day period are the only exceptions to the above clause 14.1.1
14.1.3. In the event that you elect to downgrade your tariff in the first 120 days from your initial billing date ("first period") we will invoice you the minimum sum of 100 plus VAT per handset. The charge will be dependant on the tariff selected at the time of the downgrade. Should you change your tariff during the first 120 days from your initial billing date, either up or down, the "first period" starts again. It is in your interest not to change tariffs in the first 120 days from your initial billing date. Certain Networks may not allow you to change tariff within the first 6 months of your contract. Also see 14.1.5
14.1.4. It is important to note that Orange will automatically downgrade to a Talkshare handsets connected by BuyMobilePhones.net, that subsequently have existing handsets added to them as sharers of the tariff set up by BuyMobilePhones.net. In this instance clause 14.1.3 will apply. It is in your interest not to add handsets, connected prior to that set up by BuyMobilePhones.net, as sharers within the first 120 days from your initial billing date.
14.1.5. It is important to note that some networks and service providers will not allow you to downgrade your tariff during your contract. It is in your interest to select the lowest tariff that is most suitable for your needs at the commencement of your contract. You may upgrade your tariff with all networks.
14.1.6 Should you 'buy-out' your contract early by paying the network the value of the remaining line rental, you will no longer be eligible to claim any redeemable offer from BuyMobilePhones.net.

14.2. Should you have supplied us with your credit or debit card details you hereby expressly authorize us to deduct the above amounts from your card account in the event of either of the above conditions arising.

Any help would be much appreciated

right, anyone who has cancelled but still in there 30 days who wants to stay on orange... call orange retentions... they were VERY happy to negotiate with me earlier today!

I think the way it works is the accounts team effectively buy us out of our contracts... and then we are registered as if we are eligible for upgrade/renewal

I have "upgraded" on a great new deal

so it worked like this for me.

    1. ring 150 and cancel
    2. wait a couple of days and ring 150, speal to upgrades...
    3. haggle like crazy
:TFight the powers that be :T
  • I called them in the evening on the 29th to cancel, and while the woman was clearly not in the best of moods she wasn't rude, didn't argue with me or lie to me and didn't grumble or try to pursuade me to stay. Within less than a minute of starting to speak to her the contract had been cancelled, PAC requested and I'd been transferred to the normal helpline people to sort of a refund I'm due for something else!

PAC code arrived this morning (31st)! If only Orange had been this efficiant in the years I've been with them then I might not have wanted to leave! Well, they'd also have to have revised the awful data costs, but still...

If I cancel and get the pac code requested, does that give me 30 days to do something with the PAC code?? If in the 30 days retentions didn't play ball and wouldn't better my deal, could I just not use the pac code and stay as I am now, on a tariff that I can't find any other network can better, this would be purely to grab a nice new handset and maybe get a few quid off each month.

I await the panels learned thoughts. Thanks in anticipation, a very new newbie on MSE.

    Best regards

    Tim
  • Just wondering those that have cancelled their contracts over the phone, did you get told you have to give 30 days notice and is your phone still active or did it get cut off straight away?

    Thanks.

You can just not use the PAC and then stay with them without any problem, though you'll have agreed to the change in terms and conditions by remaining a customer.

From Orange, on the PAC letter I got: "if you decide not to use the [PAC] code before the expiry date, your account will remain active and you can continue to use your phone and services with Orange as normal"

The PAC is valid for 30 days from the date of issue.

My phone is still working just fine, until the PAC is used and the number transfers, at which point the account will be cancelled and a final bill sent out to me. Apparently I'll be billed on a pro-rata basis for any remaining days of the notice period after the PAC is used.
  • For some reason the letter says it's a 30 day notice period though... I thought it was a 14 day notice period for cancellation under the terms and conditions for these changes?
