For the record: I'm a she, not a he, I have read the whole thread (and also bitterwallet's contributions), I don't work for Orange, nor do I know anyone who does, and frankly I'm staggered by some responses here. I think good customer service should be pointed out, and so I did. Some posters on this forum seemed worried at the thought of calling Orange, probably because due to some posts about the terrible customer service some FMs have received. I wanted to redress the balance somewhat and point out that not all Orange CSs are rude and defensive - this is a valid contribution to this debate, and one I was perfectly entitled to make.

I was happy to cancel, for a variety of reasons, and was frustrated by Orange and the lies I was told, one woman I spoke to me told that OFCOM wouldn't allow Orange to cancel my contract! I asked for my original contract to be honoured and they said no, I asked them to change me onto a package available on line and they said it was for new customers only so I chose to leave but I have to say no one was rude, aggressive or unpleasant to me. They all listened to my point of view and when I explained my reasons two of them said they wished they could help me as they understood. One guy seemed genuinely shocked when I thanked him for his help (he had been helpful about the PAC).

Whatever people think I don't think you were rude and don't understand why people were rude to you. You are entitled to your own opinion, perhaps brave to voice it here at the moment.

Hope they improve the reception in your area.

Welldone and I hope you the best of luck in your future Mobile company choice. I can only assume for now you will be looking around (not directly at Orange first) ;)

I'm saying goodbye to contracts for the time being and doing PAYG. I never left Orange to get a contract with another company to acquire a new phone, cashback or any other gimmick. I left out of principle as I didn't believe what they were doing was right plus I've had the same problem with increased cost to my Orange broadband due to them updating their pricing, so I was all round not happy with them. I was an Orange customer for years and was fairly happy until recent events. It's not to say I won't go back to them in the future but for now I'm cutting all ties. :D

Thats what I wish to do also. But denied my consumer right to do so - thus I am not happy. My fear is also consumer rights will be ignored in the future maybe by Orange again or another company. Which is unacceptable. The consumer has rights for a reason.

I dont either gain from anything - infact I do not wish a new phone. I like my 6301 was I given many months ago.

My appolgise if it was I who indicated you are of the male gender.

Orange CS's were miss informed (yes ok I will go to that) aswell as offering 'legal advice' in the form of you cant cancel this contract. I find the customer service to be lacking in communication and training thus I am unhappy with them.

No all CS's are rude and defensive no - but untrained when asked to cancel yes.

You could say they were just doing what they were told to do. Well in that case some did and some didnt. Where is the conformity there?
  • I cancelled my contract on the 4th of August and was told it would take 30 days which i thought was standard practice and i received my PAC code on the 7th and have since used that to transfer to a different network. I just wanted to make sure that now they couldn't turn round and say that i had to pay for the rest of the contract? Is that right?

In Evilsheeps defence, the reason I have my current contract with Orange is due to their excellent customer service.
I thought I could live with 1 bar of signal at home but I really can't. I was denied cancellation by 5 CS reps and was spoken to in a very rude manner by 1 north east call centre manager called Rick.
I spoke to a guy called Paul in the insurance department who was fantastic. Very pleasant and helpful. Unfortunately the girl he put me through to said she would cancel my contract without penalty but she lied to me and didn't do anything. Not even a note on my account.
So now I have had to to and fro with Ofcom and an idiot in Oranges higher complaints department.
Ofcom say I should be allowed to cancel as I requested that at a time when they were still changing their t's & c's, but they didn't comply.

The fight goes on. I'm not backing down and will go to court if needs be.
  • Just rang Orange and the said that the changes have been cancelled and that the original tarriffs apply...I had no grounds to continue my complaint....grrrr...anyone else heard this
