i got disconnected at midnight sunday, my brothers phone im still fighting for cancellation..

anyone else having no joy with mentioning the meeting ?
  • I've still not had a text message
  • technically it's supposed to be 30 days notice, but it seems that people are getting immediate disconnection at the moment. Unless you requested a PAC code (Owensy - this is a port authorisation code, i think that's what it stands for, it's basically a code that allows you to take your number with you to another network). If you request a PAC, for some reason you have to continue with the contract for 30 days. I received my PAC two days after my phone call and my number is already transferred to 02 :)

A PAC allows you to take your current number to another network. If you just cancel the contract you lose that number. If the disconnection is activated it is too late to get the PAC. When using the PAC you have 30 days to use it and your contract ends 30 days after using it.

it doesn't come with a wireless router..

I know you can get them just annoying that they're expecting me to pay a tenner a month, but not providing me with up to date equipment

I wouldn't advise you use any networking equipment that any broadband provider offers, they're almost always atrocious. Get yourself a nice Netgear DG834G - should be about 40 quid, very sturdy bit of equipment and you can use it with whatever broadband provider you go for next as long as it's not Virgin cable internet.

Incidentally, a tenner a month for broadband is quite reasonable depending on the package you're receiving. I pay £17.50 for mine but I'm quite the techy geek so go for nice and speedy 20mbit line.

I haven't asked for a code though so why are some people getting disconnected straight away?

Orange have changed a few obscure call charges, as a result thanks to the terms and conditions customers have the right to cancel their contract before it's finished. When you get a new phone through a contract the cost of the device is subsidised based on the monthly fee multiplied by the minimum contract term.

Long and short of it is people can keep the phone and cancel early because Orange have changed call charges. It saves people a huge amount of money.

Additionally there are people who were genuinely unhappy with the service Orange were providing and this gives them the option to go to another provider without having to wait out the full contract term.

Thats brilliant, i am not keen on orange any more. Wish I took out a contract to get a free phone and cancel with them though no under these terms!
