looks like Ofcom are going to be getting a hell of a large amount of calls0

I have been reading the orange cancellation thread for quite few days.
My contract started 02/07 2009.
· The contract is for 18 months and the plan is Racoon 35.
· I shall be paying £24.46 per month by direct debit.
· I shall be entitled to 600 cross network minutes, 500 texts, Orange Sat Nav, unlimited landline calls, unlimited calls to one Orange magic number and free home broadband.
Am I eligible to cancel under new variation in terms and conditions of the contract

I have just filled in my online complaint to Ofcom but it clearly states on their website that they do not deal in individual cases, you can complain to them but you will still need to fight your own case with Orange.0

I really really want out of this contract been needing to for ages.
All they said I could do was phone offcom on monday
It is nothing to do with Ofcom so Ofcom should be trying to agree anything with Orange. The contract sets the limit based on RPI. They are increasing the charge by 300% at a time when Ofcom have asked for 0870/0845 call charges to be reduced.
Another term of the contract is the 'minimum term' condition which says that you are bound to pay charges for the agreed minimum term. Lots of people try to cancel their contract early for one reason or another and Orange remind them of their contractual obligations. Why should it be different for Orange when the consumer wants to enforce the contract. Ofcom ought to remember that they aren't there to protect the telecoms companies.0 -
I spoke to my friend last night who had succeeded on ringing orange to cancel her contract on sunday of last week. She was telling me, as cheeky as it is, its a way of getting out the contract, ive not been in mine too long anyway so im not really bothered but i looked into it anyway and it seems this will affect me as i ring 087 numbers for my telephone banking and train times and other bits so i thought im gonna cancel because i cant afford any more than what i pay....
just got off the phone with a nasty peice of work telling me i couldnt cancel my contract with orange because the changes would not affect me based on my previous calls made. I have gone down every line, stated the terms and conditions and was just given that point 4.3.1 covers them for cancellations because they are within certain laws or something. Have stated that in the future it may affect me, whether it has or not in the past 3 months and they said this criteria is what they are going on and i dont meet it therefore cant cancel.
I dont know whether to try again tomorrow or not because some people say it depends on who you get but i dont know who is right or wrong anymore!0 -
From what i can tell alot of the time now they mark your account as refused cancellation, so trying again usually gets a brick wall now...
If OFCOM say tomorrow that we don't have to have called 0870's in the last 3 months to be able to cancel then we should be able to push ahead again but unless that happens i wouldnt waste your time ringing them.0 -
I have managed to cancel 1 of my orange contracts succesfully but they refused to cancel my second one due to not going over my minutes, I stated the whole 4.3 part and that it may affect me in the future and they guy just said yeah and I MAY win the lottery tonight!!!
Cheeky git. Anyway, now that I have told them I want to cancel but they have refused and by the looks of it I should be able to, does any one know what would happen if people just put it to them in writing (recorded delivery) and cancelled their direct debit?0 -
The thing is, i have called 0870 numbers, apparently 11 times in the past 3 months, thats how much i was arguing with them about it they actually got the information, but they came back to me saying that unless its under a minute that your on the phone to these 0870 numbers then the charge is the same anyway and the 11 times i called an 0870 number were all over a minute long.
Think its time for me to give up. Are offcom releasing something or is everyone just ringing them up? xx0 -

I got told by the customer serivce girl that I had failed to cancel yesterday so no point trying again; I said I'd still like to be put through. The guy started off very aggressively, "we told you yesterday you weren't eligible to cancel, I don't care what you quote me or who you speak to, so you might as well hang up or we'll just release the call."
I asked to speak to his manager, he said there was no-one free, and cut me off! Cheers mate!0 -
if you were to just cancel your direct debit and cancel your contract normally, you are liable to pay the rest of your contracts monthly payments so if you had 3 months left of a £30 a month contract then you would be liable to pay £90 for example.0
