Apologies Debs0 -
To everyone getting married...DON'T do it!!
Only joking guys.
Jsut had another thought a lot of big shopping centres do vouchers that you can spend in any shop and that could be an option as you might be able to use them towards the honeymoon in the travel shop or the wedding rings in the jewllers or towards the outfits, depending on the timing. At least you have the option of all the shops and not limited to one.
Might help with those of you who don't need the pressies.
Cheers

we WOULD love to invite cousins we really would but there would be 10 from dads side, each with a partner, then 6 from mums side each with partner then 8 from OHs side each with partner! im not against kids at the day do as i said ther will be some there, ours and our frineds children rather than cousins, although theres only 4 small couins neway, but it is unfair to invite these without inviting the "grown-up" cousins!
we have friends that we are v close to that wont be coming to the day do either so we really cant justify invitin so many extra ppl. every1 will be invited to night party, the day wedding and meal is for 50 and will be very close friends and family, its a civil ceremony so cant have lots there anyway!
i am a student nurse with a baby on the way and trying to plan a wedding on a budget so we HAVE to stick to the budget. i think true friends and family understand neway and wouldnt want to see us spend thousands for one day...
hope you all have a lovely wedding day!!
im going trying on dresses on saturday b4 the bump grows! any tips?0 -

exactly
ooh have a fab time on saturday :T
tips
make an appointment as its a busy time of year and you dont want to be waiting round in a stuffy bridal store esp whilst pregnant !!
bring bottles of water with you ,trying on loadsa dresses is tiring / hot work!
try on lots of styles even those you dont particularly like the look of on the hanger , to see what you def like / dislike .you may be surprised
have a budget and try and stick to it
remember you dont have to stick to the high st stores etc, ebay both .co.uk and .com is great as is the internet sites ,selling for cheaper than the storesyou could be sneaky and try on in the store but buy from elsewhere
have fun0 -
I personally detest wedding gift lists. It kind of ruins the joy of opening an invite to find a gift list plop on the floor!!!
We didnt have a list, we lived together for nearly 2 and a half years before marrying so put on the invites we arent having a list but if you would like to give us a gift then give us a call and we can have a quick chat about it. My friend didnt have a list, my BIL and SIL didnt have a list and they were setting up home together for the first time!
My friend was telling me about one of her friends wedding list, she had a hoover of over £200 on it, and neither of the families were well off so goddess knows who she was expecting that from!
Weddings are a touchy subject with families, we did ours ourselves (the families werent talking to us) and my parents had the cheek to do nothing but criticise it afterwards when they were even there!!! They expected me to invite relatives i havent seen in years, i could walk past them in the street and not know them so why pay for them to stuff themselves!! I mean if my own parents didnt go these distant relatives werent likely too!!!
Ack planning a wedding is fun!! (for about a week! lol)Bringing up 2 handsome boys and 1 gorgeous girl the MSE way!Joseph born 19th December 2001Matthew born 8th August 2007Tara born 23rd January 20110 -
I don't really like wedding lists as I prefer to shop around for a gift and not necessarily pay more to get it from the list store (but I'm just tight!).
I'd put on the invite that there's no wedding list but if anyone wants some ideas then you'd like some kitcheny stuff or give them the name of a shop for vouchers. If I received this I would probably end up getting the vouchers for the shop you mentioned without feeling put out at following a list IYKWIM!!:smileyhea0 -

a lot of people "club together" eg workmates or a group of friends etc to buy a bigger / more expensive gift0 -
Arrrggggh, weddings gift lists. I find it sooooo rude when one falls out of an invitation it's just like saying "you can only come to my wedding if you buy me something"
I wouldn't go to a wedding with that kind of invite on principle.
Sorry I know it doesn't help OP's dilemma but at least he/she is getting opinionsI haven't got one!0 -

would you rather a "poem" or letter asking for cash instead ?
cash could be spent on anything ,at least with a giftlist you can SEE what you are buying
i prefer to buy a gift rather than give money0
