...By shoved caller display my way about 6 months ago for free...To be honest I've got used to having it and seeing who's calling me...Any ideas if you get this with the CPW offer anyone...apart from that it looks like a no brainer to me!

Talk talk calling features say there will be a charge of £1.50 for caller display.

You just confused me about the download limits.

I thought a megabyte was smaller than a gigabyte ( in rounded terms a megabyte is a million bytes and a gigabyte is a billion bytes - isn't it?). Therefore 1 gigabyte is 1000 megabytes it seems to me.

You say you won't be using the service because you are a heavy user and are on 24 megabyte with Be ( don't know who they are) but that would be a lot less than 40GB - would it not?

I'm missing something here I reckon.

The 40 Gb seems HUGE to me. I am on Metronet with 420MB limit at £11.75 per month which I can never exceed. By my understanding Talk Talk are offering me over 80 times more capacity. I cannot see where anybody can go wrong. My math must be wrong so please correct me as I do not want to join up and find I fill my download capacity within 2 days.

    Regards

    Lawnmower Man

with BE I meant my speed is 24Mbit, not my download limit. I hope that's clarified it :)

for most users, 40gig is a huge amount. For regular peer to peer users, I'd do some serious thinking.

if you don't download a few movies every week, you'll be more than fine and will struggle to get 5 gig let alone 40

if you do, then you may exceed 40 gig by the middle of the month.

    Hi Lawnmower Man
The 24MB is the speed (per ???). The GB limit is per month in total.

Does anybody know whether you can keep your existing phone no. and / or whether this affects your ability to subscribe to Sky?

    Cheers
    Rob

    gives no problems to sky.

if your line is a bt line, then you'll keep the same number as per all the other CPS services.

The Talk3 plan only costs £8.99.

This offer includes Talk3 with international calls for £9.99.

The line rental is now the same as BT at £11.

While the broadband bit is free how do we know that the costs for the Talk3 plan and line rental won't increase in the future?

Not so long ago the line rental used to be £9.99 and then £10.50.

The answer is that of course you don't know whether there will be increases in the future. Not only could there be increases in line rental; there could also be increases in tariffs for chargeable calls. Generally, line rental increases do not usualy happen until BT increase their rates.

In essence the offer is ground-breaking in the UK and I think that CPW have made a bold statement that will no doubt have sent other suppliers reeling. At the end of the day it's about choice, ie you can choose not to have it.

As others have said, there's no such thing as a free lunch.

Personally I wouldn't touch TalkTalk Broadband with a bargepole. This is not to say the £20.99 deal will not be OK for some people.

If you are in one of their LLU enabled exchanges, you don't use P2P, just need casual Internet use/some email and don't mind committing to 18 months then it could be good.

Doing a little more research into TalkTalk and Opel Telecom though, if the takeup is as big as they expect, I would envisage some problems with network capacity for at least a few months. The information I've seen about their infrastructure is not that great.
  • INSIDE SCOOP, I have a few questions:

    1) You initially said TalkTalk 3 International gave free calls to South Africa, but the website says not... could you clarify?

    2) I currently call South Africa (a lot) and use a 2p a minute line with aother telecom company. The TTI rate is over 5p. If I choose this offer (and I am eligible for the unbundling deal) can I still use this line, even if I'm not paying BT rental anymore?

    3) I hear some stories about TT restricting P2P activity. As a UKNova user, this concerns me. Is this the case? Expecially considering the BBC's move into this area...

I am having some difficulty getting my head around this free broadband offer from "Talk Talk." First off the availability checker on the site still isn't working for me. The question then to pose would be when do I get free broadband. Well according to "Talk Talk" this will depend, see here, http://www.talktalk.co.uk/talktalk/servlet/gben-LLU-PageServer?article=MAIN.UK.TALKTALK.STATIC.BROADBAND.FOURBOXES.HOWSOON and here http://www.talktalk.co.uk/talktalk/servlet/gben-LLU-PageServer?article=MAIN.UK.TALKTALK.STATIC.HELP.ORDERTRACKING

To me it seems to be saying it will depend upon when TT can get their equipment into BT exchanges and they say they plan to do this for a 1,000 exchanges. However Adslguide says the following
The calls/broadband bundle is available from today on 1000 exchanges, which gives a coverage of around 70% of the UK. This does not mean Carphone Warehouse has unbundled 1000 exchanges in a matter of weeks, rather that initially people will be connected to broadband via a BT Wholesale IPstream service, and then migrated onto the LLU service as Carphone Warehouse unbundle each exchange. The first LLU exchange is scheduled to go live in July 2006.

So does this mean that whilst waiting for your exchange to be enabled by TT they will put you on to one of their other packages? If so what will be the cost, the line speed and useage allowance?
