Has anybody been able to use the TT availability checker over the last 24 hours? I just keep getting an error message. If they have taken this facility down wouldn't you think they would post a message on their home page? Do they actually want subscribers? Is this an indication of the level of service to come?

I think its simply due to the amount of people trying to sign up - when you sign up in store part of the sales process is done via that website too so you have people on the net at home and 600 stores all trying to use it at once. Yesterday they were getting 50 000 people per minute trying to use it. Just keep trying, it is working sometimes today.

I've just tried it and it works for me.

Yes it works sporadically. It's going to be a busy website for at least a few days. They'll be inundated with enquiries. Yes they will have foreseen this, but it's not an exacting science. It will get better I'm sure.

I was thinking of popping in to a local shop to see if they knew if it would be available in my area but then I think it was Steve who suggested in an earlier post that the llu roll out would depend upon demand in a particular area. So would the shop actually know. Still can't get on that checker and have tried every few minutes!!

I feel like I'm flogging a dead horse with this one. There are so many anomalies on the TT site. Referring back to what was said earlier about what happens whilst you wait to get free broadband I've now seen this on the TT site.
When you join up, we’ll estimate the date you’ll have free broadband. And we’ll be honest, some people may have to wait. But you can carry on using your current internet provider right up until you’re connected.

  • Guys,

I still think that this is a pretty good deal.

Im on onetel and virgin for my broadbands at the mo

    Onetel - £30 - 2Mb unlimited broadband, unlimited uk calls 24/7, 12mth contract

    Virgin - £15 - 2Mb broadband capped at 3Gb, no contract

I have had almost no problems with either service, but I like the sound of the TT offer as it will save me about £20 on onetel and probably about £10 on virgin, and thats not including the savings on international calls, as I have friends in the US.

Given that this is likely to be very heavily over-subscribed, im gonna wait at least 3 months till the dust has settled, and until the competitors come out with their new offers.

I heard onetel have been bought out by Carphone Warehouse, can anyone confirm this?

    cheers

Yes.Onetel are now owned by CPW. Therefore, it could be said that you are already on TalkTalk broadband?

Yes cpw have bought onetel, it is now TT. Im already on onetel £10.99 for unlimited uk calls, just have to switch the BT line over to TT and get free BB. I should be able to get the BB for free if according to TT.

I understand your 18 month contract starts when the Phone Line and Call Package are connected, not when you get the broadband connected. So if you havent got existing BB to fall back on you cant necessary rely on it being available as quickly as you would like.

Yes that seems to be the case. It's all a bit too woolly really. It wouldn't be so bad if they could ensure that line rental transfer and broadband access could happen simultaneously. I think that this point alone will result in a lot of upset customers who wil believe they are paying for a service, part of which they may not get from the outset. I can see that this will present as a real problem for them customer complaint wise.
