I don't know if you saw my post regarding the library book which my customer suspected had been stolen!? I am kind of in dread of his feedback if he gets one of the amazon requests. I just hope they miss him out. I find some of the buyers incredibly rude. Him for example. Sends me a very formal email virtually accusing me of stealing library books, and then when I send a reply to explain, does not bother to reply to that!!! There's nowt so queer as folk, that's for sure.

I didn't see that. What a complete idiot! I'm sure that you will be able to get any feedback accusing you of stealing removed by Amazon though.

PP, how is this for co-incidence. I just logged onto my email account. The buyer has replied to my email and says that he does believe that I did not steal the book, but has actually contacted the library concerned and they will be getting back to him!!!!!!!! He just does not know what he will do if it turns out to be stolen????? Can you believe this is happening? I don't think I will have to refund him though, as he waited a month to ask me about it anyway. Far out!

PS At least I had a sold disptatch e mail too :)

No more library books for me - far too hazardous!!

Do the regular sellers on this thread, when shipping a sold item, include your name and address as a matter of course?
Do Amazon require you to do this?

I'm not suggesting anything underhand - it's just that if an item sells then I'd want it to stay sold and wouldn't want to encourage returns for silly reasons just because the buyer has some regret or whatever.
I know the buyer has your email address - but even then I think a lot of people are reticent about contacting a seller with a view to asking for return details prior to a refund.
Openly including your name and address might let some buyers think they can take the mick : ie buying a cd, copying it and then wanting to return it for some flimsy reason.

    Any thoughts?

Also is anyone using anything better than word or even notepad to make the despatch note look a bit more pro.
I installed worldlabel.com label designer for shipping labels, which is ok, but wondered if there was anything better for that?

    thanks in advance

I just put my name, house number and post code on the back of the parcel.

I also now (after some hassle) send the entire email from Amazon - from where it says Order, just so the buyer can see how much Amazon makes and how much I actually get!!! This was on AT's advice. As for poshing up the process, have no idea, sorry.

  • snax - I'm afraid the buyer can do pretty well whatever they want about buying an item, reading, copying it or whatever and then asking for a refund (within 7 days) so you just have to hope that you don't meet a cynical buyer who will do this.
I've been selling on Amazon for exactly 4 years today (I was looking back at the records Amazon keep the other day - there was a question about getting feedback on another thread, so I had a look at all my sales, there has been over 700 and I've got feedback for less than 200 - I digress) and I've never been asked to accept a return so I don't think that it is too common. I have stickers made up by www.ablelabel.co.uk with my name, full address and postcode so it would be easy for them to return an item if they wanted, (they would have to email to get the actual refund of course).
Amazon do require you to add a return address in case it gets lost or can't be delivered then at least it can come back to you (this has happened 3 times to me)

The advice about enclosing the whole 'dispatch now' letter came about because with some transactions an inexperienced buyer might misunderstand the system and assume that the seller is raking the money in - like with a heavy expensive book - if the buyer sees that the fees were say, £3.50 and it actually cost £5.50 to post (not the £2.75 that they paid for postage) the 'amount due to seller' figure of, say, £10 - 11 isn't that high when you compare it to the figure the book was selling at.

Example - a book selling at £12.00 would cost the buyer £14.75 - with the dispatch note in the parcel the buyer would see that out of the £14.75 the seller only gets £5.83 in his hand after he's paid £5.50 ish for p&p (this isn't counting the fact that they may be taxed on it)

The same goes with a 1p book, if the buyer can see that the seller only gets, say, 40 pence after the fees and postage have been paid then they can see the bigger picture.
As Larmy says, poshing them up - don't know either - I just fold the whole lot up in a plastic 'documents enclosed' label thingy

At the moment when I send Amazon items I just print off the packing slip and add an able label with my full name and address. I also put an able label on my parcel as well in the forlorn hope that should it go astray it might eventually come back to me.

In fact I add an able label to every single bit of outward post (you can tell I don't trust the Royal Mail can't you?)

I quite like the idea of sending a copy of the whole 'sold' email though, as that really does show how little the seller gets.

  • I think Amazon ask you to include the packing slip, or if you can't print it off then it hand written & included with your name & address details on the reverse.

Thanks for the replies people - clicked the thanks buttons but not sure if they are working?

Will do as suggested and include name and adress - doesn't appear from A.T. that I've got to much to worry about.

On another forum I use, there was a general moan about the fact that someone had bought several item from the marketplace and the "seller" hadnt combined postage

luckily a few people (myself included) pointed out that this is amazon's fault not the seller

as a seller, ive only had one double sale - and as they were videos i needed every extra penny to pay the postage

but as a buyer it puts me off buying multi purchases - is it likely amazon will ever change the system, as i do think i and many other people would buy more items if the postage got reduced (by an amount agreeable to both buyer and seller)

But if they did reduce postage, you'd get confused people buying items off different sellers and moaning when the postage wasn't combined.

The current way, sellers can make themselves look better by offering a partial refund, but they're not obliged to.
