    Hi Guys
I have had an email from a potential book buyer in new-zealnd. She wants to know if I will post it there and if so how much postage will be. As this is my first international sale (oh, that sounds posh!!) how do I go about increasing the postage amazon charges to cover the amount needed for this book to new-zealand (I shall take it to post-office this morning and get it costed up and then e-mail her back) but what do I do about amazon? Do I go back to the listing and amend it for international postage or what???? Your wealth of expereince is needed here please.
    Thanks

No need to take the book to the Post office:

Weigh your book then look for the small packets cost.

Sorry, can't answer our other question. I think you go to your open listings, then to edit and change your options of where you send to, you need the worldwide option. I have most of my listing
    as International.

As far as I know you can change the listing to accept Worldwide then Amazon will tell you the postage costs which will be charged to the buyer, there is nothing you can do to alter this.

I recently sold a book to Australia, Amazon charged the buyer £7 & it cost me £7.03 so I didn't lose much on this one but I don't know if £7 is the set charge for overseas buyers.

Just sold another CD from my collection, I've put most of my CD's onto my 20GB Creative Zen MP3 Player so don't play the CD's
    Two things you should know:

    1) What you are doing is illegal (just in case you weren't aware).

    2) You really should make sure that you have the music backed up somewhere otherwise if the Zen is lost or stolen, which might happen, or when it breaks which will happen (one day), you will be left without your music.

Keeping a copy of the MP3's on your computer's hard drive, and a copy on DVD should be good enough, but make sure you check the DVD is still playable ever six months or so as they do deteriorate (some home burned ones last forever, some won't play a few days after creation).
  • Why is it illegal? I was never told this when I bought the player last year, I asked the shop how to put music onto it & he told me how to put CD's on.

I have all my documents backed up onto a seperate harddrive, well DH has done that not me.

You are allowed to put music you have bought onto any device you like to play it (for the time being at least - some greedy b****ds at the record companies have suggested that they'd like that changed), but if you sell the underlying CD (or vinyl disk) you are supposed to delete any copies you have made.

Otherwise when a new album comes out one person could buy it, copy it to their PC and then sell it on to someone else to do the same.

You'd end up with dozens of people having perfect copies of the disk but the artist only getting one royalty payment.

I'm sure this does go on to a greater or lesser extent, but it is illegal, so it's best not to mention that you are doing it on an open forum (or indeed to anyone you cannot trust completely).

Hi Annie, I expect that you've got this all sorted out by now but if you haven't ....go to edit your book and change it from domestic delivery to International - have a look at the 'payable to seller' amount - stop what you're doing and then go and check how much it will actually cost to post and see if you are happy with what you'll be left with. The postage rate you need to look at is the printed paper rate. If you're OK with it then go ahead and list it internationally.
When you have done this and seen how easy it is you might want to consider converting some of your other books as well ....CHECK THE WEIGHTS!!!!

Thanks everyone - I have changed the listing and e-mailed the potential buyer to take another look and that I would post it to her if she still wanted it. The postage amazon charges is about the same as what it will cost me to post it however the book only cost me 20p so I shall make about £3 on whole deal so I suppose it's worth the effort.

  • As Larmy says, poshing them up - don't know either - I just fold the whole lot up in a plastic 'documents enclosed' label thingy

Hi I am fairly new to MSE but have sold on Amazon for quite a while, hope you don't mind me joining you as I have found the threads on here very interesting. I was just wondering where I might get some documents enclosed labels. I have to cut the address off the packing list to send the item, which as well as being time consuming doesn't look very professional!

Just as a by the by my sales have decreased dramatically on Amazon over the last couple of months and I was wondering if anyone had found this too? I have 100% feedback so don't think it is reflective of my service ;) .

  • Hi ForOurFuture - I find that the Amazon sales ebb and flow, I normal sell about 7 -10 books per week (from a list of 614) and my last fortnightly payment was pretty poor but the payment cycle that that I'm on now is back to normal so who knows why and how?

I get my documents enclosed from viking direct (link in the first post) but I'm pretty sure that you can pick them up from ebay.

Tashja - if you go to your sellers account page then 'view your account payments' (I can never remember the correct wording!!!) you'll get to a page called account summary, there it will say what date your payment will be made, it takes about 5-7 days for it to get to your account from that date.
If you want to have an Amazon seller signature the next free number is 20 so help yourself!
