kingshir - this is the problem, she doesn't really do anything!

She likes crafting but we share supplies so thats out.

She likes cooking/baking - but where would I start with that ETA: as she has most of the gadgets that are worth having!

She likes things for the house or herself that are practical - I've done the photoframe, candle thing

She is with my long-term Dad! so no Ann Summers really! (i hope :/ )

I have a few bits, shoes, slippers, PJs, fudge but she knows about them. I need something to suprise her with, to show I've made the effort as we've had a bad year and her bday was overlooked really.

Doesn't really wear makeup. Only like stud earrings (I intend to get a black pair), not a gardener etc. bought her some perfume (again not a suprise). I need something innovative. I did think theatre tickets but not sure she would like them!

My best mate and I exchanged stocking pressies this morning! We decided to do each other one instead of a gift this year as we'd both like a stocking but our OH's are useless and would never do them!

It's great as last year I only had a couple of presents to open, this year I'll have a whole stocking full! And I really enjoyed shopping for the pressies for hers too, we set a £20 limit and I got loads for that!

If she likes cooking and you want something innovative, how about getting hold of tickets to be in the audience for a tv cooking show, like RSC http://www.bbc.co.uk/food/tv_and_radio/readysteadycook_join.shtml

or get her gift vouchers for Steamer Trading or similar

Or a funky mixing bowl filled with silly shaped cutters, cooking tools and a cookbook?

Jammy could you produce s 'voucher' type booklet yourself (I am sure u can as u are a whizz on the ol'pc!) and have them for things like I will cook u dinner, do your ironing, bake a cake, take her on a picnic, do the ironing, a girls night in with chocs movies etc?? Or what about a really simple food type hamper of eg tea different teabags new teapot, mugs?? I don't know theatre tickets/vouchers or cinema ones?? Or book one of the cheap travelodges so she can have a night away with her new PJ's!!

My parents are really hard so gonna treat them to a week in a cottage with us on the IOW! It may not be a treat if it's a small cottage!!

OOh another idea what about a voucher for 'the mother of the bride' so she can have makeup, hair, nails etc done before the big day or a day with a personal shopper so she can get her outfit??

Hope something here helps!! Good luck!

Jammy, what about a day pass at a spa? You (or someone who wants to treat you :) ) could get yourself a pass as well and you could go together. I'm sure there are some really good deals around now. A few years ago my Dad got my Mum 2 day passes for a health spa and she asked me to go with her. It was a lovely mum+daughter bonding experience :) You mentioned it has been a bad year so this could be a nice way to relax.

Cough still there. Any suggestions for non-medicated ways of easing it?! So restricted in waht I can take being pregnant! Hubby picking up some soothers on the way home, so that should help a bit, but can't reall take anything stronger than that. So any home-made traditional remedies are very welcome.

When I was pregnant I found hot honey and lemon drinks worked best for coughs and sore throats. You need a few squirts of lemon juice, a teaspoon of honey (more if you like) and hot water. It's nice and soothing and you can drink as much as you like.

I would say have a hot toddy but without the whiskey, the warm honey and lemon may sooth your throught and cough a bit:confused: or icecream to numb it:confused: hope it gets better soonxxx

Thanks Sarah and Nicky! Dunno why I didn't think of honey and lemon. Will make myself a mug full before bed now me thinks. Then treat myself to some icecream tomorrow. ;)
