Shevs -thanks for reassuring me. Me and OH are both mind boggled (as well as being scared witless:eek:) Leaflet giving so much detail it's scarey............whole thing should take about 2-3 hours..........how much of that is talking to doctors and recovery I can't work out.
Means a lot to know people are thinking of us...........thankyou so much x

Forgive me if I'm not over enthusiastic about christmas at the minute..........I'm trying to be and been doing decorations for our dresser but its so hard to try and be 'normal' if you know what I mean.

Still, on the plus side.............I found some little 'folk art' type ideas on a web site.............might not get around to it this year but they're little scraps of material with very basic xmas trees and stuff on.......very primitive.............must rummage through my 'freebie' fabrics in the drawer:rotfl:
I would be unstoppable if only I could get started !

I've just got back from Mr A's where they have tons of Christmas stuff out and had to stay very strong and not buy the 2 for £7 tins of chocolates and they also have £1 for pringles and had to resist these too otherwise I would be eating them now!

I bought 2 lovely wreath to hang over the doors for £5 each and a hanger for £1 each. They had some more for £10-15 but the cheaper ones are quite neat and tidy and come in red and gold colour tones.!

Thanks for this! I work in a school and there's 4 classes in the quarter I work, plus two for the tables in the staffroom so this will save me some money as I wasn't looking forward to paying £5 per tin :D:j:money: *goes off to calculate how many tins I need in total besides school ones* :D

Those who are asking about artificial trees, I've always had one - never had a real one since I moved out of my parents house (I break out in a rash with the sap  and I hate the needles). I've done a hand-me-down one which was okay with a baby around, then I bought one from Asda about 4 or 5 years back costing somewhere around £20-£30 and it was good. It was nice and bushy but surprisingly wide. I ended up shoving it in a corner and bending branches back on themselves to get it to fit  Last year I had nowhere to put it except infront of the window where it took up way too much space - so I took branches off it (read: forced them out of their holders and binned them!) so I could fit it as snuggly against the wall to save on space as possible. It shed like mad over the last 2 years so I chucked it out in January.

This year I've treated us to a 7ft slim Christmas tree from this website : www.gardensandhomesdirect.co.uk for £49.99 :D Yes its alot to spend on a tree, BUT it has branches that you hook on, so after assembling it to make sure it was all there, I took branches off and sorted out which ones will have to be left off to get the tree snug up against the wall this year. So if I ever decide to put the tree somewhere else I will still have the branches to use ;) The one I ordered is this one, except mine is green not black! http://www.gardensandhomesdirect.co.uk/christmas/show-christmas.asp?id=8t0039c1 (fantastic service via courier and you can go through Quidco as well ;):money: ). The fella who delivered it gave me a very funny look since I ordered it in September :rotfl: Its now packed away safely waiting....

I like artificial ones as I can put them up on December 1st (or the first Sunday of Advent which is the 29th November this year) and know that it will remain okay until the 12th night when I take it down. They also last much longer so in my opinion its worth shelling out the money for one. Just make sure you have somewhere to store it, unlike me...I have to find a home for it soon though as its currently taking up space in my "wardrobe" :o:rotfl:

Woohoo, bonfire night is over, it's officially nearly Christmas!
Or so I informed my husband this morning - I asked if I could put decorations up and he said not until Dec 1st :(

Thanks Nicki for the tree advice, I'm definitely going for a fake one just need to decide on
height - 6ft seems small as I'm pretty much that lol
and whether to have it prelit - saves hassle but if the lights break they may be tricky to replace?
and where to get it from?

I ordered the book The Night Beofre xmas off Amazon but got an email to say they aren't selling it any more. Can anyone suggest another Christmas book suitable to read to little ones (2&3) - want it for their xmas eve stuff. Also want a DVSD, any suggestions welcome - I've never actually tried to sit my 2 down long enough to watch a film with me so must be engaging and suitable fro toddlers (so i guess animated would be best?).

I found a few books in Poundland.

One was Twas the Night before Christmas pop up version :D.

Maybe you could look at Teletubbies at Christmas, Dora or something like that as they will be shorter than a film.

Thanks for the suggstions, I was looking for traditional ones though, I can't stand teletubbies at the best of times!
They do have the bob the Builder xmas one which is actually watchable
I think I'll go for The Snowman as it's musical and maybe a longer one like the Santa Claus.
Just noticed there's a thread about xmas films for toddlers so i'll be reading that now...

  • I prefer the traditional ones too :D. Managed to find one a while back but DS is 5 so hopefully it will hold his attention :D

Also good as I haven't seen it.

I think that The Snowman sounds good. It is £3.97 on the Tesco website if that helps if you don't have a Mr T near you-although that is unlikely as they seem to be everywhere.

It is also in their grocery section as well if you do an on line order
