Hi All,
I think I read somewhere that Water Co's no longer practice disconnection for outstanding bills. Can anyone confirm : Is this true?
I live in a converted house in London, in one flat with a shared or common supply with another flat. The point where the pipe divides into two is on my property. There is one meter on each supply.
I have a longstanding grievance with the WC, but they refuse to accept my complaint into their complaints procedure. I have offered them most of the bill, but not all, because they have not fulfilled their statutory responsibilities, but they will not accept a penny less than the water bill. They owe me a large sum of money for their negligence and dishonesty (many times the water bill) but they will not acknowledge this.
OFWAT will not get involved, at all and Consumer Council for Water are useless (and toothless).
The WC have been threatening legal action for around the last year, but so far have not done so.
Is the WC's only option to go to court?0 -
Hello all,
Apologies if i'm not in the right place, but i'm kinda new.
My water bill is a lot higher than i expected it to be. I have 'used' an alarming amount of water and have no idea where it has all gone! in 5 months 142 m3 has been used. Considering i practically live by myself (housemate may as well live at her boyfriend's house, she spends maybe 1 night a week here and rarely does any washing here) this is unexpected. I have lived by myself before and seemed to use 1/3 of what i do now, and i haven't changed the way i live, in fact i used to have baths in my old flat and only shower here. I phoned southern water and they seemed to agree it was high, and one person said to wait till October when meter reading was due as it might be a mistype or something (direct debit of £45 p/month while i wait!) and then phoned another chap explaining i had read the meter and it was very high still and clearly not right, in an hour apparently i used 70 L of water (no washing machine/dishwasher/showers etc)! He simply suggested i get my landlord to get a plumber to check for leaks. I get the feeling the meter is just wrong though - either the meter is reading the water wrong or its connected to the wrong meter (live in a block of flats and frankly the labelling system is poor, a bit of masking tape to state the flat number?!). But now my landlord has to pay for a plumber? Surely i would notice if there was a leak as there would be puddles, especially with 70 L of water! I don't know really what to do now, if there is no leak and the plumber can't find anything wrong where do i stand with the bills? If they are wrong am i likely to get any money back?
Thank you in advance for any help0 -
The first thing you need to do is work out which meter is yours.
Ask the water company to come out and check..You want to make sure it is done with an appointment and that way you can be there for the flow test.There is a race of men that don't fit in; A race that can't stand still;

Hi all
I'm with Welsh Water, am I right in thinking that I pay for water in arrears? I've just had a bill through with a debit balance of £105 after adding my water usage for the past 6 months. So will my next 6 months of payment go to pay for what I've used from January to July?0 -

A member of my family has recently gone through 18 months of a very difficult divorce. Following a court order, thankfully she was given the family home for her and her 3 children to live in. This has all recently been finalised and so she is going through the process of taking over payment of the bills and this has started with speaking to Severn Trent Water. The water bill was paid by her ex husband along with all other bills for the 24 years they were married and they have been in their present property fo 16 years. Severn Trent have advised that as she is now taking over the bills that this is a new account and rather than paying the balancing monthly payments, she is being billed an extra £ 170.00 up to the end of March simply because it is a new account as the bills will be paid from her bank account rather than her ex husbands. Can anyone explain the rationale/justification for this. It would appear Severn Trent are profiteering out of a situation which is simply a change in bank account for the same property/same users of the utility. There has never been any missed payments on the account, the only change to water usage is that her exhusband moved out 12 months ago thus reducing the amount of water usage. How can they justify this. We have spoken to them and also Ofwat and the consumer council and they all say it is because it is a new account - but "so what" - we could understand an administrative charge for changing bank accounts but how can they justify this type of extra charge?0 -

Hi,
I am a single mother of 3 children living in a 3 bedroom house. I have just received my 1/2 yearly water bill from STW which is over £500!!!!!!
I am currently already paying £54 a month - surely this cannot be right!??
I will be applying for the free save-a-flush device for my 2 toilets, but when it comes to water, i don't know how else to save. I have a water butt coming off my shed for my garden and do not have any external taps.
Can anyone assist me further?0 -

Welcome to the forum.
As you are trying to save water, presumably you are metered?
To have a bill of over £500 for 6 months can surely only mean you have a debit balance and are paying it off. An average annual bill for 4 people will be around £500 with Severn Trent.
