Hello everyone
See in my opinion one cause can be the for more electricity bill is that some time e do not buy the electrical appliances according to our need means we bye some heavy power machine like we bye water pump of more power then our requirement in order to get water with greater force and they forget about the power consume by them will be more. And hence result is more electricity bill0 -
Just received my Severn Trent water charges and notice that the cost of water incoming has increased from 136.51 p cubic metre to 146.07 now I make that a 7 per cent increase whilst the used water charge has gone from 83.68p cubic metre to 88.6 which I make to be around 5.9% .
The standing charges are showing an increase of about 4.4% so I find I am at odds with what is shown as a 4.3% increase in Severn Trents figure in the table.We are obviously metered and use about 2 cubic meters a week.
I also pay for water in my Canary Island home at a cost of 2 euros per cubic metre supplied where we reckon on the same type of usage.
Why are there discrepancies in what the increases are?, is it Severn Trent being economical with the truth?0 -

I am a student in North Wales living in rented accommodation with a friend of mine. We have recently received a letter from Welsh Water (addressed to someone else, presumed to be a previous tenant). The letter is a bill for the forthcoming year, April 2011 - March 2012, which is at an expected value of around £360. It does also, however, state outstanding costs of £1268.22, payable to a "debt collection agency".
When we first moved into the property in June 2010, we were not aware of any water bill, and assumed it was covered by the landlord. This however, seems to not be the case, due to this enormous bill that's been posted through the door! I'm unsure of our options, as we are certainly not accountable for the majority of this figure.
OK, write to Welsh Water and explain, enclose original copies of your tenancy agreement which will show the date you moved in. If you are on a meter ask them to deduct off the last water reading you had and re-issue the bill. If you are not on a meter then the they will deduct off what was owed before you moved in. Don't forget to ask for the tenancy agreement back.
Welsh Water try their best at customer service. They are a not for profit company and aren't in it to screw the customers.0 -

They are not on a meter as the bill is 01.04.11 to 31.03.11 but that was replied too and done in March or so this year and they have not been back since.
You can though send copies to water companies as long as the details are clear..There is a race of men that don't fit in; A race that can't stand still;

hi, i was living in a two bed flat in manchester, after three months i received my first water bill which was over £700. obviously this prompted investigation and we discovered the toilets were leaking. i notified my letting agent, they sent a plumber round, who fixed the hot water but failed to fix the toilets. within the first four months the property had undergone inspection from the letting agent.
after 6 months i received another bill in excess of £2000, again i notified the letting agent. however, they declined to send a plumber citing that because we had both sets of keys they could not gain entry. i said i was able to meet the plumber anytime. i was wondering what i should do? Am i liable for the bill? or should the letting agent accept some responsibility? any advice would be greatly appreciated. thank you.0 -
Our total bill for this year, for water and sewerage is £411. We don't have a meter, and that's with a discount, as the water from the guttering goes underground into a soakaway.
Does anyone else have a bill as high as this? I know they go on rateable value, but that means nothing as far as I can see.
We're with Anglian Water.

As I'm on here asking a Q I thought I'd do some browsing, and while I'm at it repeat what I may have said previously on this forum:
You do not have to pay any advance charges for your water/sewerage. What I mean is that when they send you a bill in April and ask you to pay in two six monthly advance installments, you should only pay up if costs you less, or you just don't like having a bit of extra cash in your pocket. Paying by Direct Debit saves you a bit of money, I believe, so that's a good excuse.
Otherwise why would you let these greedy so-and-sos have money out of your pocket which you could do with yourself? I advise that you pay only for what you have had. Very few goods or services require payment up to six months in advance, and just like any other business water companies don't have any right to be paid for services they haven't yet supplied.
I do speak from experience - I challenged South Staffs to follow through on their threatened county court action but they soon backed down. Their letter to me explaining why they would 'allow' me to pay monthly was rather silly and very unconvincing.0 -
hi all
I really need some help i Know Im paying to much for my water but southern water dont seem to help?
I live with my wife in a two bed house when we first moved in three years ago our bill was around the £38 mark two years down the line we had a water meter fitted and our bill went to £74.90 a month i questioned this and asked for our meter to be checked and changed which there have told me was done 6 months on and our bill has increased again to £88.80. I have asked around my family whom all live in the local area and this is what there paying.
5 bedroom house two people £45.67 a month
3 bedroom house 3 people £38.80 a month
2 bedroom house 1 person £34.58 a month (this is my next door neigbour)
I have done all the test southern water have advised and dont feel 2 showers and maybe one bath a day we do maybe one load of washing a day and our dishwasher goes on every couple of days is this alot???

Your payment plan really means nothing as it does not tell us if you were in arrears at any stage, if you have missed any payments and thus it increased etc etc
What is your usage ? That is the only way anyone can tell you if you are using to much or not.
You need to give us actual meter readings.
A bath and 2 showers could well explain the high usage as that would be 7 baths a week and 14 showers..That is quite a lot and if it is a power shower it uses more water then the older style.
Also a washing machine can use a massive amount as well and one wash a day seems a lot.There is a race of men that don't fit in; A race that can't stand still;

As said above, we need to know your consumption in cubic metres.
It is extremely unlikely that you are consuming enough water to merit a payment of £88 a month. Therefore the most likely explanation is you have a large debit balance which is being paid off, or you have a leak.0
