I have got the access to learning fund forms and have got print outs of bank statements, my tenancy agreement and loan notification and schedule. Now is the tricky bit, writing the personal statement, can any one help me out a little with a general template or some tips?
The reason I am in financial hardship is because:
1. Am in 3rd year and getting less loan than the last couple of years.
2. I'm 24 and do not qualify as an independent student, but I get no financial support from my family, my Dad is a lone parent and has reached retirement age and receives state pension so can not afford to assist me financially. I also took a foundation year so I am on the old loan system and get £400 less a term that my brother gets.
3. I had a part time job but had to give it up as I just have too much coursework to do (I am dyslexic so hammering out essays can take a little longer for me), degree has to take priority but I am skint without the extra income.
4. The house I am renting is going up for sale in the summer so in the next couple of months I have to find £300 for a deposit for a new place to rent from June onwards.
I need the money for basic living costs and possibly for a deposit on a new place too.0 -
i don't know whether there is a good template, but 4 paragraphs of a few sentences making the points in your post should make the case very very clearly! good luck!:happyhear0

I have just applied for this today. Got a mortgage, boiler has just packed up and partner has lost his job....
What are my chances? From reading some posts on here it seems they have given money out to people in better circumstances than mine?
I do have a job but the wages don't amount to much, will they frown upon me for not working more? (I reduced my hours before partner lost job as I was struggling with uni work)Married 5th June 20101st Baby born 12th April 2011:j0 -
When do you think the best time to apply for the ALF is? My troubles are of my own doing (got into debt before even starting!) but I currently work 3-4 nights a week to pay it off. I had figured that if I can clear some of the debt and just reduce the minimum payments then I may be alright to leave work, but I dont see that happening too soon. I know I wont be a priority, this is not the fault of the course or the uni, however I figured my chances would be better once they cleared all the students that do need the cash for proper reasons.
I'd just like to add that if I dont work I dont eat, but if I keep working I will probably fail. I know it is my fault but that doesn't get me any further. Even if I only get something this year and get a loan from the bank from next year (one of those mature student loan things) it would make the difference. I am actually independant (ie the only income I recieve is my own).Debt £5600 all 0%0 -
My advice to anyone thinking of applying is to just apply, the most they can do is say No right and i know in my course, everyone that has applied has received something and we're all in different financial situations.
Last year, towards the end of the third term, the department actually sent an email ASKING us to all apply as they still had a lot of money left over which would have been returned back to the government and would have meant a lower sum received this year. So there's no 'set' good time to apply and it also depends on just how many ppl are applying!
Good luck!0 -
